those of you who use cloth specific night nappies how many do you have in your stash ?and can you recommend some for DS?
He's currently around 9 kgs and in med IBs. We've been using IBs and GKs (with the boosters in them) overnight as well but he needs at least one if not two changes o/night for a wet nappy ( and then has to feed back to sleep :rolleyes: which adds to the number of wet nappies o/night). He tends to save the poop for the daytime (often for cc to clean on those days:rofl: or for DH when I'm at work so don't have to worry so much for the poop issues.
Leckert - Ummm I think I have 5 GF's... 3 FB's... um a ticklefish tots and a KK... and I've just recently purchased another 2 KK's off a friend.
So that will be 12 night nappies - for 3 in cloth at night. Which I'm hoping will be enough when winter hits here.
My recommendation will always be GF's though cos they rock.

I have all 4 in cloth fulltime (except DS as I cant find any night nappy that can cope with that much wee!) cz the dr says that they are allergic to sposies :(

Rhy WOW!!! I'm sure your washing machine never stops. Unless you have 2 washing machines. I would buy a second machine if I had triplets :lol:
Leah is still in smalls. At 10 months. She is still so tiny!! And the only nappy that really still fits Sarah is a Large Magicall so I have been boosting that with a prefold for her night use. I also have some home made extenders for everything else but the fit isn't as good.

Loaded machine this morning and went out to the shops. Came home expecting nappies to be done and.................. forgot to start the damn washing machine :wall:
Can anyone suggest anything to add to my usual washing routine to rid nappies of HORRID teething pee? I swear she's cutting a molar, it's pure acid smell. was thinking canestan rinse. I have been washing daily as usual and airing for a whole day after but the smell just won't go. unless i'm just imagining it because it's so rancid :think:

Lately I have found that I have been "double washing" - I firstly do a load on HOT with no detergent, once this cycle has completed I do a second cycle on cold water with a little detergent. Note - I have never had to strip wash any of our nappies, this is the most "action" i have had to take LOL. PS I do like the AG's too, but prefer side snappers.:

Blergh, my 8kg machine takes on average 2 hours to do a wash so that's not an option. 3 hours if I do it on hot. Seems that the acid pee smell has ceased for the time being. Just trying to get panadol stains out after Sunday's 3 foot drop on head incident :o Thank god no damage to her noggin just mild shock and a very mild concussion.:
Was going to get my nicely dried and aired nappies off the line today and there were heaps of caterpillars on and around them. The evil looking black and yellow striped ones with the thorny looking things on the tail :o . I am PETRIFIED of them so waited til DP got home and he did it for me! :lol:

okay, further to my night nappy questions - GF offer side snaps or front snaps - which should I get - I've really only used side snaps (I think) on one of Maz's covers way way back when DS was just a teeny tiny baby (okay about 1-2 months old and not 9-10 months old).
I think I'm leaning towards side snaps (I use front snaps atm with the IBs and the Velcro stuff with the GKs) for the night nappies (that way DH can't confuse them :lol:)
ETA - DS apparently has a low rise - if I go by the GF website on rise he should be in the smalls, but his waist and weight mean he should be in medium - I should stick to med shouldn't I? It won't be a problem if the rise of the nappy is bigger than his?
So we have been using cloth for almost a month now and are going well with the occasional disposable overnight as I don't have any night specific nappies yet and have been slowly building up my stash.
I just had to come in and share my deal of the day with people who understand. I am liking the fit of itti bittis on DD atm and this morning I purchased, 5 sio's, 1 aio, 1 wetbag, 2 booster sets, 3 mini boosters and 6 wipes for $141.80 delivered! :dance:
Leckert - it should be ok re: the rise. And I would go a medium - DD2 is in medium GF's and she's about 7kg now (approximately) but quite long. As for side snaps, thats all we use here - so I always say go with them.
Fuzzywuzzy - woohoo! (and btw, fuzzy wuzzy was a bear, fuzzy wuzzy had no hair... )
Thanks, Mel that's what I was leaning towards - med side snappers - now off to order .... Even DH now realises that having night nappies will mean less noise (DS goes off (screams blue murder) when his nappy needs changing at night) overnight if DS doesn't need to get his nappy changed 2-3 times.:

Been off the planet a few days on codiene. So after i sprained my ankle, i strained my hamstring. Then to take the cake after that healed, I got an inflamed ligament in my groin and a boil the size of a 10 cent piece on my rear............ sorry TMI. Was so painful I stood in the Dr's the whole time, could only lay in bed and BEGGED the dr for painkillers!
Received my Abby Gro customs on friday so have been super stoked with the new fluff. DP just doesn't get it and looked quite baffled at my excitement. DD was so excited she put them in a pile on the bed and dove on them :rofl:

I;m a newbie to BB but on my second run of using MCN's,
With DD (2) I used mostly Greenkids and loved them but we were pretty skint (both students) when she was born so we only had 14, they are totally trashed now, some of the PUL has worn and the elastic isn't so elastic, I replaced all the elastic only to realise she has grown out of them at about 15kg
WE needed more anyway when DS came along and I found the best, most practical system...not pretty but I prefer to go nuts with cute clothes and practical with nappies,
We are using a combo of Bonnibuns workhorses and Flip. Reasons I love Flip are less washing, you can reuse the outer if there;s no poo, Less bulk on the bottom and in the nappy bag, The PUL gets washed less so should last longer, Great fit, Only one leak so far with new born poo and it fits 15kg DD with room to spare. ALso you can use any inserts in it,.
I bought some microfleece from nappies covered and sewed some socks to put my GK bamboo inserts in so they are still getting used,.
Also when you go away you can use disposable inserts with the cover,. Heading interstate for Mothers day and looking forward to trying the disposables out!
So thats our MCN stash for now. Just thought I'd share

Hi PollyA! welcome to BB if i haven't said prior.
I was a bonnibuns workhorse fan until DD seemed to pee excessively and flood them almost straight away. They were fantastic until she hit about 8 months and she can really push the liquid capacity with everything really! looooooooooove the bonnibuns night nappies, they have saved many night wakings from soggy sheets!
Nappy news......... none really. Was going to start a playgroup today so put DD in her best fluff only to find it was actually the multiple births day and I was actually supposed to go yesterday :redface: I fully psyched myself up as meeting new people makes me REALLY NERVOUS.

This is my first time in here! I have been using MCN's for 3.5 yrs, and prior to that I was using old-fashioned cloth nappies!
I was hoping that some one may be able to offer me some advice on how to repair some of my itti bitti's - they have lost their elasticity. I am not handy with a sewing machine, but I am hoping to ask a friend or my mum to help me out....How much elastic would I need for a medium SIO? Is it easy to do? I just can't bear to write off 4 nappies (they are a year old).

hi everyone, just a quick one, how much fiddling around are flats? someone has just said they have 12 flannel and 12 terry toweling flats that i can have as her boys are now either in disposables and toilet trained. from what ive seen with cousins/nieces/nephews it looks like a pain, but have been told they are the best cloth nappies to use for newborns...

flats would be ok for newborn coz most dont move around a lot but once they get moving and arent cooperative its not so much fun lol
Flats are easy for a new born cause they dont move. We used them and werent an issue.
Fixing elastic is easy if you are a sewer, but you arent then speak to a friend who has a sewing machine. Use swimwear elastic as it will survive the wet environment better.

cmarfol - I tried flats with my now 9 year old and just foudn them to be wayyyyy too huge and bulky. I would suggest looking into prefolds, much trimmer and easier to use. Maz makes some awesome looking ones and I love the Booroi ones.

hmm prefolds ey? do u just put them in a cover like a massive booster or can they actually be made to look like/similar shape to a nappy and then pinned?
u can use them watever way u want but on NB poo its better to have them like a nappy but with my 1yr old i use them as like big boosters :)
You fold them into three, then fan the back and bring the flaps forward around their belly (like wings) and use a snappi to hold it in place. I think Maz has some pics of a special doll with one on that way. Later on you can use them as a lay in or as a booster for pocket nappies :):
I tell ya what, the way this little girl is eating and pooing lately she would be costing a mint in sposies!!!! 4-5 poos a day, eating as much, if not more, than my 9 year old!

I have darlings down under on my facebook and they are changing owners very soon and are trying to get rid of lots of stock... I keep looking at the sales.. monkey doodlez aio's are only $15, and covers are $12! And they are selling fast, heaps of stuff on sale.
If only my credit card wasnt maxed out and the savings in an overdrawn position. Grrrr.....!!! I cant even afford one wipe at the moment!(not that I need it!!)

people with boys, how do u go with getting pretty nappies? DF is very pro-boyish/manly clothes and nappies *sigh* ive seen so many nappies that are sooooooo cute but are apparently too girly :( same with clothes as well. so i guess we will just have to hava girl at some stage...1st 1 in 3 or 4 gen in DF's family...so i may just end up with lots of boys....

I have a question about prefolds for anyone who's used them. DD was a 10pd bub so for the next one I am thinking prefolds, but is there a specific brand that I should go for? Are some smaller than others? Some that I've seen range from 30-40 square cm's and I'm not sure if they'll fit a bigger bubba.
Hi Fuzzy :) I was wondering about this too. I have bought about a dozen prefolds and when I washed them they shrank (it said on the packet this would happen) and now they are tiny! They only JUST fit my cabbage patch doll - that's right, I tried them on my doll . Hee hee. I am waiting for my first to arrive so had to use a substitute!!!
cmar - there are some nice boys nappies out there, I've only bought a few that are girly. I think woddlebots, I got a black nappy with blue stars from there, it's adorable, I also got a few with frogs on them, they could be girly too but would be cute for a boy. I also got a booroi cover that is red striped that would be good for a boy.
Payday today.. :(I gave in and grabbed a big order from darlingsdown under :rolleyes:

And I have a question.. Newborn poo's.. are they black? I've heard the first poo's are really bad and can ruin the nappies, so I'm thing of using spossies for then. But how long will these deadly poo's last?

i have heard the same about newborn poos, we concluded sposies as well....lol had a demonstration session with DF & sis last night with the MCN that i have so far (they will b the most likely ppl to change bubs other than me) and i think sis will be fine but i think we will somehow end upon sposies when DF is in charge!!!!! he was like...ok....cool.....and went and started fiddling with some bit of something he brought home from work....lol any suggestions of how u guys got DP/DH/DF on board with this?
I have an orangutan stuffed toy that tried out all my baby stuff- clothes, nappies, hammock, pram, car seat...:
They only last around a week to 10 days. I have just started using my cloth nappies in the past week (bub is 4 weeks old), but as far as poos go i could have started earlier.:
For those with newborns, what cloth nappies do you use overnight? Bub is pretty sensitive to being in a wet nappy and i'm not sure what will last overnight (4-6 hours). In sposies, i have been able to do a feed without a nappy chnage if it's only wet. I have prefolds, flannel flats, small BBHs, kissaluvs and a few others that don't have tags (i got most 2nd hand). I also have bamboo here to make up some boosters.
Also, in regards to sun bleaching out stains- do you have to dry the nappy in the sun or can you dry inside and then put in sun to bleach? Over Winter, they will take too long to dry outside here so i have been putting them on clothes horse in front of heater.
One more, i had a look at the darlings downunder sale but the nappy section was way too confusing (translation- wanted to buy too much), but i would like (need) a wetbag. what brand do you recommend? Do i only need one? I use a bucket at home, but want to be able to use cloth going out too.
