we said a bit before lunch, but we're flexible - can change to be a similar time if you want to try and catch up?
sounds like a plan..I said after lunch cos we are hopeless at getting organised before then....lol....
hi lovely ladies,
I just wanted to come in and say hi and introduce myself. Been lurking for a while but get shy about joining threads when everyone seems to know everyone so well.
DD is 11 months old and we have been using mcn's since she was 6 months. Really wish we had gotten into them earlier but like a pp above I thought they were all flats and bleach soaking etc. Did not like the thought of all that chemical contamination. But geez the sun does such a brilliant job - when it is out of course!
I just got a little squirt thingy for the toilet and OMG it is so good! So much easier than washing the muck off in a bucket or naughty naughty in the laundry tub.
WOKB - Purple Itti Bitti
Welcome Shazzi :) I love our little squirt too! Wouldn't be without it. We started using it a week after starting solids so no idea about newborn poo- I never rinsed off that BF poo though.
Very exciting about our upcoming models!

Lol how slow am i? I just realised this was here
Hello my name is Melinda and i LOVE cloth nappies ;)
Alrighty so im not up with the lingo so ill try my best :)
WOB - BBH hemp with MAL cover
LIttle squirts and newborn poo - Don't see why it would not be useful. I used to rinse most of DD's pooey nappies before solids so i would not get residue in the washing machine. And she is a little runny right now so that is like pre-solids.
We just got the stuff from Bunnings and my DH made it up. Made him feel very manly
Hi everyone - just need to shout my love for cloth nappies out loud to people who will appreciate it.
Cool thing Number One - This morning DH did a load of nappies and phoned me at work to tell me that for the first time ever the poo stains didn't come out and he could still see them. I told him to put them outside in the sun as that is supposed to help the stains and he said ok but in a VERY disbelieving way and muttered something about napisan before hanging up the phone. I worried all day that he would have soaked them in napisan and I didn't want them going near my little girl! Anyway, he just brought the nappies in and ran into the room to tell me that all the stains have "magically" disappeared and it is a "miracle" - hee hee.
Cool thing Number Two - We saw the MCHN this afternoon and when we took DD nappy off, there was a massive poo and the MCHN exclaimed that this was the biggest one she had seen in ages and marvelled over how there was no leakage from the prefold and the cover kept her clothes totally dry and how amazing it was. She then said that she is going to tell mothers who complain about the sposies leaking about how good our prefolds and cover system was working. Yay!
We are just SO happy with our cloth nappies...........
Now a Q - is anyone using BBH magicalls OSFA? I have some but even on the smallest setting they seem too big for DD still? She is 5 weeks old and 4.6kg. However, she is wearing BBH Petites Small and is on the largest setting. Maybe I am not snapping the BBH OSFA correctly to the smallest size.....
WOHB: Bamboo prefold with Thirsties cover
:hello: hello Shaz. WTG on hubby for using his nogging and making your own little squirt. We barely use ours anymore :shakehead: but I cant part with it
YAY Minnie chicky :cheer: about time you got in here.....and dont worry about the jargan....just ask ;)
I bought some more bamboo fleece to make more trifolds....they are working really well as extra boosters for tank atm so gotta stick with what works :)
I read somewere that there is special powder now for mcn's...dont ask me what its called have no brain....does anyone know or has anyone used it?
WOMB - sunshine GF

I have heard about the rockin green stuff, but yeah it sells out so fast! There were samples somewhere but i cant remember where you could get them from. Will have to keep looking when they get more in.
Does anyone use longies? If so where is a good place to get some full length ones?
WOSB - Sandman
Today miss daisy had her first lot of vaccinations. One of these was the oral rotavirus vaccine. The nurse said that this is a live virus and so you have to be consistent with handwashing after nappy changes for a week as it comes out in bub's poop. I asked her about what affect using cloth nappies would have, as in would you have to do special washes to kill anything in the nappy, but she had know idea about mcns. Just talked about napisan, soaking and hot washes.
For those who vaccinated their kids, do you have any info on this vaccine and cloth nappies. Any ideas if they have to be washed any differently?
Thanks,
Kate
ive never had an issue with DS rotavirus is gastro it think if i remember right u just have to make sure u wash ur hands so u dont come in contact with it
I hot washed (60 degrees) for about 14 days with a canestan rinse in each wash to make sure the bugs were killed......espesh now being winter with not much sun for natural UV sterlising...but then I am a bit anal about germs....LOL!
Bbh is selling rockin green at the moment if anyone is interested.
LOL! Pre cloth DD used to get a FOUNTAIN up her back and make a real mess.
Welcome new subscribers!
J-I had no end of trouble with surf washing powder in my washing machine. Residue in dispenser, marks still on clothes, crusty residue on the outlet hose. Also DD got little red dots after I washed her clothes after a load of mine and DP's clothes.
WOCB: errrr.......... I think I have a bonnibuns on her tonight. She was originally decked out in her Maz night nappy but she decided to errr..... make me a present in it lol
I was just reading somewhere about powders building up in machines and manufacturers/repairers recommending NOT using powders in machines due to the abrasion and buildup issues. I always use liquid so not a problem.
Someone has suggested mixing the powder with water prior to putting it in the wash.
Maybe an option?
my machine says to use powder, so I stopped using liquid long ago. Hope i am not doing too much damage. I use so much less than I used to since using cloth though. On my clothes now I only use half of what they tell me to and everything still comes out clean. even so I think I will do an empty hot load every now and then to give the machine a clean.
On another note - LONGIES - where can i buy them? I remember seeing them available in the GDNH but cannot remember all the places. I want to try and knit some but I know that is a pipe dream with a crawling infant and hard to baby-proof house.
kate - thats fine temp for bamboo and pul.
shazzi - try the natures cradle website. i am pretty sure they sell longies.
I used to use liquid and then I read MCNs should be washed in powder as it leaves less residue! Who knows huh? I use Aware for sensitve skin. Seems to be working well.
My machine doesn't have temp settings either so I use hot wash and everything washes well- no issues with PUL. I've just recenly decided to go down to warm wash though as I'm sure everything is getting clean enough and that's less hot water wasted then.
Some shops on ozebaby have longies and darlings downunder have them too.
WOEB: BG OSFM
Thanks girls i am checking out the stores now. I had never heard of natures cradle before. It is huge. Love looking at new shops online.
shazzi - its here in adelaide. its awesome tho
60 degrees is about the max temp for elastic and PUL...it's fine for that short space of time..... probably wouldnt want to wash at that temp all the time but for a couple of weeks here and there is fine.
Got my fluffy mail! The guy at the post office nearly fell over when I told him I was taking three packages on my bike. Nice old dude offered me a lift, but I managed. Pretty funny though.
I got:
1 x tots bots bamboozle off ebay
1 x enormous boatload of Arimeh's cast-offs, inc Close Carrier. So exciting.
2nd hand maternity wear
Bike parts for DH (booooooooooring)
Uh oh- I may have bid against you on this. We should put dibs in when we bid on ebay so we don't push the price up on each other
Yay for the close carrier!! I'd love one, but we loved our HAB so we'll just stick to that again... and besides, I'm thinking of getting a breeze baby sling to extend my carrier collection for this baby anyway :)
Hey Meow, I lurved my HAB too. I got the Breeze baby sling, but wasn't that into it. I am keeping it for summer in case i get use for it but realised i am not a one shoulder sling gal. It really dug in.
i use liquid..won't use powder as IMO it does leave a residue both in the machine & in MCN's
damn....i have missed out on soo much in this thread....
you should all see my NB stash that is building slowly....hopefully for a bubba next year :)
Ah really? I think I'm a two-shouldered girl and I haven't even tried one-shouldered slings. Having trouble finding a good summer two-shouldered carrier though so I might just see how we go and get something if the HAB seems too hot.
Fluffy mail!!!
6 x flannel flats + 3 snappis
6 x small bambineo fitteds (so soft!!) + 2 small bambineo covers & 2 small bummis whisper wraps
What newborn nappies are you stocking up on Katones?
meow, there is a group on FB called babymammas - she does HAB style wraps out of much lighter materials
They work beautifully - although not really sure about those first few poos (you know the black ones). Used my from very early on and it has made things nice and easy to remoove the "sticky" liquid type poo from the nappy before hitting the washing machine - although now that DS's poo is more solid I almost don't need it :( - he still has the odd sticky/liquidy poo that is best removed with the LS. (We have only had BM and normal solids here, no formula so don't know if that makes a difference)
my DH never got around to installing the LS for us - so what doesn't roll off gets a quick rinse and no real dramas. am actually contemplating selling the LS but not sure where to list it (or where he's hidden it for the moment lol)
well if u wanna sell it i'll buy it off you :) lol probably dont need it now but i will very soon
