Hmm... just checked ebay and there are heaps of nappies! And a lot are used- are they allowing used nappies now or is everyone just doing it anyway?
Well I have been bad lol Have bought a few second hand nappies, and some organic BumG OSFM AI2s. Got yellow, green and white, 5 of each :)
Just FWI for those who like the BumG v3.0 OSFM Pockets - they have now been officially discontinued. I know Nurture Nappies has some very limited pink (blossom and zinnia) left, for only $28 each.
Not sure what will replace them yet but will keep you updated as I find out :)
Also getting some BumG bamboo sized fitteds to use - never tried them before, but always loved the BumG's.
Trying to be good, especially as we don't know what we are having yet! lol
Hi everyone :)
Our little miss is now 4 weeks old and I am happy to report we are a cloth nappy family. During the pregnancy I bought some BBH petites and OSFA, thirsties, prefolds and peapods and we are using everything except the OSFA. The prefolds are working really well for us and I love love the BBH petites. I was wondering - with the petites, if I buy the next size up - will the small inserts still fit into them? Or if they don't, do you think I can still use them? We only have 3 BBH shells but 6 inserts and they work fabulously. I guess if they don't fit the next size up I could use them as inserts...........if anyone has any thoughts on this - I'd really appreciate the feedback :)
Also - with the BBH, they seem VERY tight on her little legs and leave marks. We have had zero leaks but I was just wondering how tight is too tight??
Thanks in advance
With the BBH you should be able to use the small inserts, the snaps are the same width apart, but they may not be long enough, just check. You do get one insert with the Petite nappy though, so no need to use them really.
Because they are a side snap, you can set them differently - meaning you can have the waist on snap 2, the leg on snap 3, which will give you more fit in the leg, there shouldn't be a big deep red mark on her leg after wearing them, so I would loosen them off a snap and see if it makes a difference. Sometimes you just get to that place where one is too tight and the next is too big, just need to wait it out and see how she grows.
HTH :)
Connor is almost a week old (omg) and is in his 1st nappy tonight...

Bloody nora Limey...now I want some bum fitteds. (maz scurries of to look)
I seriously have to make some small trifold boosters for tanks nappies...he is out wetting everything atm..grrrr and we're on the last inner snap on his auriels :(
Meow...kiss aluvs....oh cluck cluck cluck. I really should have kept one..they were just the ants pants in this house for so long
I have to get me some more fitteds for home....off to go stalking
WOMB - BBH fitted boosted with jungle babies fleecie cover
 sorry Maz!
I'm starting to sell off my nb's, it's sooooo hard. DH has said "no" to any more babies, so it's a waste to have them around here, and I've noticed a few of her smalls are becoming too little now, so it won't be long and they'll be added to the list. I guess the upside to this is I can buy more nappies (not that I really need to, she has heaps, but that has never stopped me before).
I'm in the process of buying a couple of nappies for a gf's new bub. I thought it a much nicer pressie then a bunch of clothes, I know when I had Miss M, we were given so many clothes, she didn't get to wear them all.
Ebay and used nappies - no you are not supposed to put used nappies on ebay but people still do - usually they get away with it but every now and then ebay checks and they all get wiped off which is a bugger if there is something you want. Being a bit sneaky an get around this. Once a lady was listing stuff I wanted bit she got wiped off but I had remembered that she had something else listed I wanted so messaged her thru this auction and made private arrangements for her nappies - and got them cheap!!!
WODB - Abby Gro rainbow
WOSB - Abby Gro mushroom
cmarfol- Connor is gorgeous!!! cluck, cluck, cluck!! Love the strawberries :D
LS- Wow- no BG v3?! I would love to buy some of the organic BG but I have enough OSFM now so have to stick with our old stash I think.
starangelk- Congrats on enjoying the newborn cloth nappy world! I have no advice though sorry... we found some nappies left a pink mark on my son's legs but I'm sure how to say what is too tight. I guess if it seems painful?
Interesting about the used nappies on ebay then- personally I wish they would just get over it!
Thanks guys for the responses about the nappy fitting - I don't think it hurts her, she doesn't cry and that's the policy I have been implementing - "If she doesn't cry or fuss then it's fine!"
I am super happy that I can reuse those inserts - bargain!
BumG v4.0 apparently comes out in July! :) Will be available in snaps! yay!
Ahh so a v4 is planned then. My bumgenius are v1 and v2!
I now have kissaluvs, bambineo, tots bots and flannel flats on the way!
Is that the BRIGHT rainbow fleece one? If it is i was spewing Renee couldn't get her hands on any more of that material. I have a pastel rainbow coming my way in this custom order so i'm dancing.
I managed to remember the lavender oil this shop run and my nappies smell devine!
WOCB: Abby Gro daisy black/red Minky all day.
ohhh I so want to see a pic of these of these rainbow AG's..they sound devine!!!!
I keep forgetting lavender oil too....might get some in Melbourne (no time now)
Packing...packing...grrrr I hate packing!!! Heading to the inlaws this weekend for a break. I had to quickly make some bamboo trifolds so I can boost up tank's nappies....he is seriously out wetting everything atm. hopefully it will work.
After my gorilla CK got caught in the dryer again :( (thankfully its not to damaged) Ive decided to use a pillow case to pop my nappies in before puitting them in... I dont have a fancy bag for them, but a pillow slip is the next best thing in my eyes ;). My nappies will not be eaten any more.
back to packing..

Howdy,
Well DS has pretty well grown out of every nappy we have. I want to get some large GFs but DH is refusing to use cloth and he's the one who's he thru the day so I don't see it working. :( wah!
I've tried reasoning with him but he's not really receptive to anything that's not his own idea :(
So that said I'm here for my cousin.
Her 5month old is 10.3kg so grew out of his small mcn's so fast she barely got to know which ones worked.
He's currently in flat nappies dduring the day and sposies at night which she thinks are giving him thrush so wants a recommendation for a night nappy
I'm not sure if he's wide or narrow though. How does she measure to tell this - I always worked it put by what nappies worked well for us.
I have an ecobuh for her to try but after other suggestions
I hope you had a good weekend away Maz. The gorilla nappy sounds super cool!!
Sorry to hear you're not using cloth anymore Pandora. I'm not much help with night nappies- we only tried Green Kids and they worked well for a while but not the best I don't think. I'm tossing up getting some proper night nappies too. Maybe a BBH.
First lot of fluffy mail today!! Two size 1 Tots Bots Bamboozles. Very fluffy and little and cute :D
WOEB: Bumgenius OSFM
Pandora - I owe you some money for the bamboo you gave me so how about I send a large NN to your SIL in its place..she can fix you up with the$$ ;)
Meow - had a lovely time away thakns :). You do realise I have to check out these bamboozles now...they sound so yummy and delish.
PUtting a trifold has worked wonders with Mr ****alot. I change him every 2 hours now and the nappy is wet but not wetting through..compared to the half an hour I was getting. SO mental note...must buy more bamboo fleece to make more trifolds...10 isnt enough for the stash :p
WOMB - tree of life GF
Pandora - so sorry to hear that your hubby won't use cloth :( Regarding the night nappies, Maz's night nappies are excellent :)
Laa can no longer wear our medium sugar shots :( The bottom row of snaps kinda sits onto her thigh, instead of above it. Happened overnight.
So now we are exclusively into the medium/long sugar shots and beetlebums pockets, with some GF's as spares (the boosters take ages to dry here in winter).
WOHB - SS pocket with Geisha Girl embroidery
Yay.. I finally am using my cloth collection. We were using sposies for the first few days. Dh hated them, they kept leaving marks on Harlee's skin and they looked so uncomfy! Harlee is in her first cloth nappy now.. a woddlebots AIO. it is soooooooo cute! I've been itching to start using the cloth!
:D:D:D:D
wohb - woddlebots AIO with fishes all over it! :D:D:D
:D
how cute poopie luckily my hospital uses cloth and hopefully when i move the one i go to uses cloth too
no cloth news here except i need to put in an order with maz for a few things then im set
WOJB: BBH night nappy with maz Jamie cover
WO?B: with it could be a prefold with a sexy maz cover but alas they are still in the womb :)
Our hospy is a cloth free zone. Hmph. If that's not a reason for early discharge, then I don't know what is! DH has said he is more than happy to lug washloads back and forth if he has to, but I don't know if that will cut it.
Maz - the bamboozles are sooooo luscious. They're the ones DH wanted to rub up against his face because they're so lovely. Mmmmm.
Fluffy mail waiting for me at the post office.... wonder what it is?
How can a hospital prevent you form using cloth?? That is outrageous!
Was very thankful ours was only cloth! lol They discouraged sposies, but certainly let people use them, but provided and washed flats for the whole stay, all the staff were versed on them and taught us hold to fold them and pin them etc. Loved it!
Boo for your hossie!!
it must be a country thing cloth nappies coz all the hospitals ive seen use cloth
nope. Up here in Shepp they have cloth on hand...but most of the *cough* young girls *cough* use disposables from day dot.
I remember going in the night before having Mario and folding a bucket load of nappies ready and the nurses all came in witih big smiles on their faces. I had people come to have a nosey at tank's bum when he was born cause he had on a blue gelatoe cover...ahhh those were the days.
I cant believe a hospital refuses to let you use cloth...how dame rude of them. Even the childrens in Melbourne will let you use cloth, as long as they can weigh the nappy before hand and after to check for output their happy.
I got a form of fluffy mail today .... 12m of malden mills fleece
WOMB - choco brown dot minkee LL NN :D
WOVB - GF nite knickers
i used disposibles after day on lol i was lazy this time cloth from day dot
the hospy i was in was cloth only too - if you wanted to use sposies you had to take them yourself!
WOEB - BBH and MAL little miss sunshine (i think!) cover
ETA - Miss E is going to be a cloth nappy model! woot!
I KnnnnOW! I am so gutted. But, whatever. Tis but a few days in a fluffy life.
Pffffft to the *cough cough* young girls. They just don't have the smarts for cloth.
Just found out there's not one but TWO packages at the post office! Yay yay yay, now I can't wait for tomorrow. If I get up nice and early, I can pick up from 6:15am. Dunno if baby Exhaustipator is gonna help me wake up that early though. Depends how cold it is. (southerners don't you laugh at me! I had to recalibrate when I moved here )
Our hospital provided disposables for free (I think- maybe you had to bring them?) and a nappy wash service for $10 per day. We knew we were going to use cloth and were prepared to pay the $10 but we never got charged. I'm pretty sure the midwife just assumed we were using cloth and straight away showed us how to fold them, gave us a disposable tie on cover and that was that. If you have to use disposables I'd be hunting down some eco ones in newborn size- less icky stuff on a newborn bot at least.
Maz - that would be awesome but would be way more exxy than the bamboo. let me know how much extra.
Im still wanting to get DS in cloth on the weekends I wish DH wasnt so pigheaded
It is sooo true but prior to having DD, education regarding MCN was unheard of. My friends that all had children were old school and sposie users and thought cloth nappies were yucky to clean. It's only because my cousin mentioned MCN and I started digging around google that I discovered cloth wasn't just terry flats and nappy pins. I admit I was more detered from cloth initially because I was PETRIFIED of sticking a pin in DD! I would have nightmares about it (didn't even know about snappis). DD started getting nappy rash at about 3 months and then i was doing some research and came across MCN! Even talking to mums at playgroup they're gobsmacked about what modern cloth nappies are. They were so shocked that you don't even have to soak them! I made sure my older sister was educated on nappies and she's stocked up prior to my little nephew's arrival.
See now Meow brings up an excellent point...if hospitals are going to use sposies then why dont they use eco ones? Or enviromentally friendly ones? Stupid Huggies grrrrrr.
I would stand firm to and pay the $10 Meow....sposie crap
Had SIL try and give me some pull ups and I told her to give them to someone else casue im not into land fill. Well that went down really well
OMG BG - Miss E being a model...who for??? spill lady :
P andora babe....:nerner: jsut PM me your addy again
The royal women's hospital said in their blurb that they provided cloth nappies, or you bring your own disposables. i was happy to use cloth and didn't take any in, but then was given a few huggies and told they don't do cloth anymore. urgh!
however, i also don't get why people stress out about the idea of soaking nappies. (i know that mcns don't need it) why would chucking them in a bucket be such an issue?
Twinkle Lily - later this month
she gets a freebie nappy and maybe some other stuff
means a trip to Melbourne but that's ok!
me too BG...well Connor that is..he is gonna show of the little bubba nappies.....hehehe.
WOHB: BBB Night nappy and Disana wool soaker.....is sleepin...well...just like a baby!!
BG and Mel - :leap: omg omg omg how exciting both of you. say hi to you know who for me ;) tell her I'll pop in one day for THAT cuppa :P
CL - ive got a bucket aswell...thats were our cleaned off pooy nappies go . Others go in the flip top bin. Amazing how quick that bugger fill's up.
I think I have a cold starting :(
we had to use sposies for the first few weeks as DS was premmie and the MCN's i had for him would have come up under his armpits!! lol. plus we didnt have the money to go out and get premmie cloth ones. going to stock up on pre folds for next baby!! not sure what the policy was in my hospital. was booked for a private hossie but things changed a week before i had him!!
oooh Mel - what time you going hun? will try and catch you on msn - maybe we can try and time it for similar times and catch up so i can finally get cuddles with the C man!
WOEB - NFI - daddy changed her!
Poopie - YIPPPEEE!!! WOW congratulations hun!! How exciting (the baby AND the MCN LOL!!!)
Mel and BG - WOOT on the model thing, how cuuuute! TL are a pretty great easy to get workhorse, I must admit!
As for the eco nappies in hospital - they don't use them because the nappies that they are use are given to them for free by the glorious loving **cough cough spew spew** huggies ;) Most of you know that we ended up in hospital for a few days when Laa was born, DH brought in all of her MCN but the midwives told us not to worry about cleaning them so we just used the hospital terry flats. I was so sick taht hubby did 95% of the changing, to this day he still prefers the flats LOL. However he is also able to use all of our MCN, which are side snappers. YES, MEN CAN WORK SIDE SNAPPERS LOL!
Well I am waiting on a couple more beetlebum pockets, then that should be enough - will have around 2 dozen pockets for Laa, she goes through 5/6/7 nappies a day now. Only into the m/l nd larges now, its cool but makes me sad at the same time!
WOHB - BB ISO paddlepop
