Cloth Nappy General Discussion #198

Hi FuzzyWuzzy! DS was born 2.8kgs and was in bbh multifits and Itti bitti tuttos from about 3 weeks old. they're both osfm options with a generous range of sizes. we were using flanny flats and covers prior to that.

Helle- I saw a mesh washbag at woolies about a month ago in the laundry accesories section (ironing board covers/pegs/peg baskets etc) it's not a stupid idea because snaps can get jammed in the door if a nappy bit is out a little. the tuttos have long bits and also thankyou for shedding light on where all of the little boosters may have got to on mine...

Thanks girls, I wasn't sure how the OSFM would go on a little baby, will have to wait and see I guess. I have tuttos and haute pockets and the multifit and magicall from the bbh trial pack. Might look at getting some small or osfm fitted nappies instead of more prefolds. So many choices!

OK so after experimenting I've come to the conclusion that bamboo + lilac's poo (not wee) = extreme nappy rash.

She was fine in the bum genius so it's not suede cloth. So I have to sell all my bamboo and I can't buy popins like I wanted.

So bbh are good night nappies and ittis are good trim day nappies, is that the general consensus? They're not bamboo, are they?

Has anyone ever tried stuffing pockets with a shamwow? I just had this idea for a super trim nappy. Lol.

shamwow maybe but i'll think u will get compression leaks with one of those

have u tried some liners for the bamboo? and the popins have dream dri's which arent bamboo

is it direct contact with bamboo thats the issue then ittis are suedecloth topped and bbh nights are microfleece topped

No I really think I need to avoid bamboo in any capacity. Where is the bamboo in ittis and bbh?

BBH night have bamboo in their boosters, but it's fully micro-lined, so no skin contact. We can't have bamboo next to the skin here (well, we can, but not for two changes in a row, and even then we have to use a liner) and they're fine for us. Otherwise, just boost the blazes out of a cotton fitted and add a micro liner.

On shamwow - you could totally do it. We have stuffed our GKs with all manner of things in desperation. When camping, we rinsed them in the creek and stuffed with an old t-shirt. Worked, no probs.

WONB: GK stuffed with a prefold.

With ittis it's in the boosters they're just topped with something else (can't remember exactly what the stuff's called)

Suede cloth? I think the boos are bamboo velour.

OK now I'm a bit cross eyed. I'm going to have to make a chart or something to keep track.

I actually like both bum genius and happy heinys osfm. Hhs are my favourite design but I find them less water proof.

I don't like green kids, I've got 3 I'm going to sell along with their bamboo boosters.

If it's just boosters with bamboo, couldn't I just buy different boosters? I've never used hemp because my friend told me it stinks, but it should be good for night, right?

I've got some bumGs (and HHs too I think - currently sitting in car while DS sleeps. So can't check) I need to rehome (pm me if interested) - just haven't gotten Around to taking pics yet to sell them.
Wouldn't hurt to try a couple of hemp boosters first - you might be a okay with the smell (I don't know what it's like as I've never used hemp)

I dont have an issue with hemp its just stiffer than bamboo and not as absorbant

I thought hemp was supposed to be more absorbent than bamboo ?

i love my hemp BBH's. They work great here :)

the pop in dream dri's weren't a good fit here but they could be another option for a non bamboo nappy

I received my fluffy mail from the always lovely Audax today. I can't wait to try all the fluffy goodness on him. We had a very windy afternoon today so was awesome cloth goodness drying weather. The nappies I put on the clotheshorse on the verandah at 3pm were dry by 5:30 :o

WOLB: Happy Heiny fitted with a maz cover. I added a CTs booster as an extra booster because champion piddles alot would probably leak otherwise

I havent been in here for ages! No new fluffy news here except i got my first divine toosh n its pretty! Havent tried it yet.. Thinking of selling off a few more again, i have ones i never use so no point keeping them until dd fits them! I have enough lol...

Not much fluffy news here. still waiting on my new WAHM custom which should be divine. Got a new Maz cover a couple of days ago - so cute and a nb one for my sister.

nah, cardboardy nappies don't worry me because i just give them a scrunch and they soften.

Doing a mass strip wash as we speak. I had a fabric softener stint and I think it's got to my nappies... Jack has had some shocking leaks lately, it's driving me nuts. To the point where I'm almost ready to give up. No more fab softener for this little black duck!

I don't let napisan or fabric softener into the house for that reason Helle. I'm petrified it's going to leave a residue in the machine and destroy the nappies

we had our first ever up the back explosion in cloth i thought that was pretty awesome for almost 11 months of cloth though it was gross at the time and it was our night nap little smarty pants lol i was always cleaning up after jamies ewwwww

Nah, a strip wash would fix it. Mine was more because for a while we seemed to have drainage problems in the laundry sink and the machine would stay full of water. I felt if there was napisan residue then it'd cause issues absorbancy wise. It's that and Pixie got dots all over her if I accidentally put her clothes in with a softener load.

We're clothing it here. Yesterday I had a bit of energy so I constructed a ****e load of nappies to put in a pile (and hid the sposies from DP). What do ya know, he reached for a multifit last night and patiently took note while I taught him how to work it :lol: Now that I can get Liam in the bassinet he's in cloth full-time. In bed with me was a tad to uncomfy for him because he was getting tilted onto his head.

ETA: Helle, Has your DS had a growth spurt? I had to replay with the tutto booster settings after Pixie growth spurted for maximum absorbancy right over wee area. Just a thought

Possibly. He has been pretty clumsy lately which is usually his sign. He's also going through a water obsession too. That kid drinks a tonne of water, ive almost considering having him tested for diabetes! But mum said I was the same. We have never have this many leaks tho. Hopefully the strip wash does the job, im over his plastic bum.

Pixie is a massive water drinker too and it's definately easier now she's TTed. It got ridiculous because she'd drink about 500ml off water then her nappy and all her clothes would be soaked 30-40 minutes later. I was filling up a hamper a day in clothes changes and a couple of days she had no dry shoes from the wee flooding down her legs. Basically it was like she didn't have a nappy on at all.

Liam is looking like a heavy wetter too so far lol

Yup. It's nothing for jack to skull his entire water bottle in 2 minutes. I guess I shouldn't complain really, some mums I know have a hard time getting water into their LOs.
We haven't hit the shoes yet but I've had the entire legs of his pants soaked!

Try a stripwash to eliminate it at least. You might have to swap to another style of nappy that you can super, super boost! Pixie will use a tutto for a day nap now (if she has one) but 99% of the time she wakes up dry.

Jude is nearly 3 and he only just started drinking both water and milk this winter. I've been through several hot, steamy summers I didn't know how he survived.

But now he soaks through a mcn if he wears one to bed, we just use disposable pull ups.

We couldn't do the no water thing with the blistering heat and 0% humidity summers. Pixie's first summer I made sure I taught her how to use various drinking containers for water. It came in handy one day when I headed out early and got stuck down the street a while with a badly sprained ankle and Pixie in the pusher

WMM - did you get your Peechee? i loved the butterfly Peechee. She really does make stunning nappies

I have ordered my snaps machine and can't wait to experiment with making some MCN and covers. so many ideas

Glad to see some sun here today, my nappies need it. Especially since little miss has been unwell and had panadol and i now have a horrible stain on my best nappy. Der, totally slipped my mind. Luckily it's a pocket and it's only the insert. I'm hoping some sun will help.

I have found the most lovely detergent. Ecover. It rocks! makes nappies smell divine and is super gentle. a bit exe but worth it

What other things besides panadol can affect nappies? i've been playing it safe as we have been using chest herbs with DD for bronciolitis and wondering if that would stain?
