Preferred pockets are greenkids; although I'm not that keen on them except after DS's swimming lesson when he can out-wee nearly anything and I've no idea where all the liquid comes from unless he's drunk half the pool :rofl:

I have tried strip washing, buy the problem is how much fluff had been lost in the dryer over the years. They just have no fluff left.:

Just got some Rumparooz Lil Joeys in the mail and I'm so pleased to have found some that look like they'll be good on a tiny bottom! Anyone used them? My DD was 2.5 kgs at birth (5 lb 10 oz) and I think this bub will also be small. I was looking at how small the sposies were (that still had to be folded down :o) and wondering how long it would be before this bub wouldn't get lost in the other MCNs I have! These are supposed to do 4-12 lbs.

Jennifer if you want something for a little bot, try Bambooty smalls. They are lusciously little, pretty cheap, and a really easy intro to MCNs. We loved them in the early days (we had a 4kg baby, but she was on the larger settings from birth, and they were designed for little bubbas) I haven't used Rumparooz, but Mrs Nerd Burger seemed to liek them and she's a pretty harsh critic.
Pockets: Little Britches are pretty good! Very thirsty, and very hardwearing. DD has been in hers since about 4 weeks (And she's 11 months tomorrow! Sob!) and still look like new. I also love GKs for their versatility, they can be stuffed with anything.

We just got our LS set up again after a two month hiatus. And thank god. The watermelon and edamame nappies were hard work, even for me, the most dedicated cloth user in the world, ever.
we started off with pea pods and cushie tushies for when DS was born. he didnt fit into them until he was around 7 or 8 weeks old tho and had hit that 4kg mark. he was 2.7kg when he was born.
bbh petites in small might fit a little baby. the weight range starts at 2.7kg.

It has been AGES since I've been in here primarily because I've had DS2 in disposable nappies most of his life now.
However, I've found some bamboo nappies that I THINK are going to work for him - in which case I will use them for our new baby who is due to arrive around 19 April.
Here is my question... I know that bamboo nappies need to be washed three times to reach their maximum absorbancy.
BUT do you have to wash AND dry them or can you just wash them three times in sucession and then dry them once and they are ready to go?
Because if I have to wash AND dry them three separate times I won't be able to put them on him until next week - such is life if that is the case!

You can just wash once or twice- to get rid of any residues from manufacturing- and put them on bub but just for short periods (knowing that it won't be at full absorbency). You don't need to dry between washes. I think it still takes 8 or 10 washes until bamboo gets to full absorbency.

I just unearthed three bags of MCNs, covers and pilchers from my baby storage pile that I picked up from a lady on Freecycle about two years ago (lent some to another friend at the time). I had no idea but there are half a dozen BBHs, Green Kids, Bun Genius MCNs with numerous boosters and about thirty different sized random brands of fitted nappies and covers!! I'm so excited! Some are in really good condition and others are well used, but all in all I won't need any more. I can certainly do full-time cloth now.
I'm glad I bought NBs mostly so far, because I certainly won't need any more once baby is out of those.
I love Freecycle!

I am doing a strip wash on some of my nappies this morning and I'm not sure if I have done it correctly.
I put what I thought was a good squeeze of dishwashing liquid in the machine (I have a front loader so was terrified of putting to much) - but I'm not sure if it was a full teaspoon or not.
Anyway, I've been peeking at the wash as the machine has been going and there are hardly any suds in it at all.
SO, when this cycle finishes should I put some more dishwashing liquid in and start all over again - or just rinse and see if it worked as I did it??
No worries - I found the strip wash sticky and it answered all my questions.
Good thing too as it seems to be MUCH quieter in here then it used to be when I relied on this thread regularly.
Sorry LilP, I've no idea on the washing side just yet! Weekends are particularly quiet around here usually.
Great find Jennifer! I haven't had a lot of luck with Freecycle. I went to pick up some nappies a couple of weeks ago, thinking it was a good stack of terry flats, and found it was 5 holey flannie flats that had been used as rags. Booooo.
I have a basket to fold. Am procrastinating. Meh, it's the weekend.

still loving our cloth. i have made some which i'm really happy with. Mum is still using flats on her babysitting day and i use them at home sometimes too. got some bad panadol stains on some of my nappies, just don't think of it at the time.
i currently love my new AT nap i brought SH. great fit on my bubba. i'm still only using boosted bbh's at night, they work fine for us .

Haven't been around here for such a long time, and there are so many new faces. Looks like our MCN (and nappy) days are drawing to a close as well. Miss M rarely keeps a nappy on, doesn't matter if its front or side snaps - velcro has been a no-no for a long long time - within minutes she's ripped it off. I've been busily making some training pants out of the nappy making fabrics I've got here, just so I can use some of them up. No more babies (of ours) here either. I'm actually considering saving the OSFM or multi-sized nappies and using them in my FDC, not sure if thats just a sad reaction so I can still use them, or for the better of the children and/or environment. Just need to put it to the parents.

fluffy mail yesterday :leap: newborn cover and 2 small covers (boy themed trains for 2 but not worried either way) from Maz-a-licious as she had some on clearance. looking forward to having newborn fluff again. DS doesn't need anymore fluff (not trained yet but can't afford anymore and the GKs and IBs are doing him fine)
I have two more sugar shots coming soon. I scored them second hand and in pretty good condition. One was only used a handful of times
I started using our newborn fluff yesterday - once the meconium poos had stopped. I started about one nappy change too early - since the first poo was a complete explosion! I only feel slightly better knowing that even the disposable would have struggled to contain the output. She's settled down since into only normal sized newborn poos.
So far it's been good. I really like the Cheeky Butts Minis that were actually relatively cheap brand new. DP installed the nappy squirter the other day and it's working well to clean them off. So far we've only had a few to wash, but DP is insisting that's his job atm.

We are rocking terry flats at the moment. Nasty humidity related rash, so I'm using terries and my crusty old naps while I bombard her backside with cornflour. Pretty sure it's MCN friendly, but just staying safe anyway.
In other awesome news, we got through the night in a terry flat last night! I popped a trifold in there, ust to see how it would go, and ding ding ding! Winner! This is great news for when we travel to MIL's house, as she is a renowned nappy trasher.

Wow, haven't been in here for ages!! I'm really only into one type of nappy though - loved prefolds when DD fit them, now I'm all about itti bittis. So I'm getting rid of all my other nappies and replacing them lol. They're easy for DH to use and seem to contain everything so much better. They're the only ones I'll use on our long car trips cos DD sleeps the whole way and they easily last without causing her any issues. Ok now I'm sounding like an itti rep lol....

Like Audax we have had a bad rash so have been using flats or flushible liners most changes. if i want to use a pretty i stick to moogoo and cornflour but they aint really cutting it. I've also been using the Canestan rinse occasionally JIC.
So devo because when bub was sick last month and had panadol, heaps of her nappies got stained. I have done a strip wash but they are still grey.
I have also ventured into the world of making my own nappies which is fun.

Just got a bunch of CC's in the post that I bought of fb on an MCN swap sell site. They are super cute and look like as if they will fit a newbie really well. So exciting! Just washing them all now. I just can't wait to find out the sex of my baby so I can go mad buying a bunch of gender specific MCN's. I now have about 22 MCN's either bought second hand or given to me by friends to start me off and I am really looking forward to the journey of cloth nappies. I did however buy a small supply of newborn huggies for the first week of mec nappies and settling in. Wish me luck everyone!!

Loving using MCN's on my new bub! We have a combination of BumGenius (which have been FANTASTIC) and sized BBH Magic-Alls which were great at first but the last few weeks have leaked a few times. I strip washed them all but that hasn't made a difference - the last few times they leaked was after DH did the nappy change so he may not be doing them up tight enough?
No nappy rash and amazed that a double-stuffed BumGenius is somehow lasting overnight from about 10pm until 5 or 6am :)
I'm also really surprised by how easy it all is! While I was pregnant, if I mentioned we were planning to do cloth, everyone told me we'd be lucky to last a week. Sure showed them :)

We got Panadol stains this week too, after vaxes! :( We found that Dymadon didn't stain, but now that we're more than halfway through the bottle, it is. And I totally forgot, so my favourite pretty is all stained! It will come out, CW, just wash and sun and wash and sun and wash and sun - ecostore whitener can help too, but repeated wash and sun is the best bet, I reckon.
Well we're off to the chemist to go and blast this rash with something hardcore. It's getting worse, not better. :( I'm using all my non-PUL nappies now to see if that helps. Can't do fitteds/flats with no covers because she can rip them off :lol:

Sounds like that rash is a nasty one Audax - hopefully the chemist can help there with something to clear it up.
We're still liking our ittis here for DS when at home except for nighttime (sposies for CC:( ). Our attempt at GF night nappies didn't work a while back and I've been too slack to do anything about it.

Which MCN page are you on leckert? I need to sell some nappies to cover my new ones, and I'm on MCN Australia buy/swap/sell, and then a girl on fb randomly added me to BUY AND SELL YOUR MCN'S (modern cloth nappies). I'm sure there are more, but I don't know where would be best for me to go!:
Another good MCN day, really no hassle for a NB. Went with sposies last night but I think with an extra insert we'd probably be okay. I'll use the sposies I have and then try.

I'm finally putting in for some MCN =D yay!! I'm going to get a bunch of BBH multifit magic alls. Now they come with 2 boosters, but you can put extra in. so should I buy some extra boosters?? OR will my terry flats work? (because i have them too to start out with)

You'll be fine with the inserts you get for the Multifits. They weren't a great fit here, so I'm glad I didn't get too many. Do try and share the love between brands a little bit - only not too much, otherwise it can get confusing with all the different inserts. I've never had a problem with it, but my helpers find it a convenient reason not to do nappies. Which is fine - it's my fave "chore" anyway :D
We got Hydrozole at the chemist. DD's name is spelt wrong on the label. Totally our own fault for giving her on of "those" names, but I still wish the chemist had checked. I offered him my Medicare card and everything. DD's just started a new probiotic this week too, so I think that's not helping too much. But at least she's not constipated anymore.
