Why on earth would anyone put the trigger of the little squirt in the toilet bowl water? That's just gross.
Proper little squirts have a back flow valve but home made ls don't so they would technically be illegal due to the risk of water flowing back and contaminating the water supply from what I've read
Yeah, ours has that too, technically it's sold as a bidet unit. Since bidets are completely legal, I assume this is fine. I bought it in Oz too.
Ours is a branded one, also bought here in Oz, but I've no idea if it has that valve in it. I'm really curious to see what other plumbers have to say about them, because I normally don't do illegal things, and it does make me feel a little bit uncomfortable, even though we would never ever leave the spray head and trigger hanging in the bowl!
so talked to my mate the plumber. he said they are all illegal. to get on fitted properly with vavle and whatnot you would need a plumber and would cost thousands. he even did a search for me on any cheap legal stuff and didnt find anything!
i cant believe it!!
he said he wont dob on me tho. ill just hide it if we ever need a plumber
Far out, we just got a letter last week about a plumbing audit by council. I wonder if we've been reported.
Hi Ladies, it's gone really quiet in here! Audax - is there anyone who could have dobbed you in? Can you remove it temporarily for the audit??
TT40 - has the little squirt been deflowered yet? Still interested in instructions if you're comfortable sharing!
Chrispe, how did you go with the nappies today, are you the proud new owner of a stash of mcns?
Well my nappies are a bit stinky after only ~1 month use! I'm trying a wash on a longer cycle today, see if that helps...
Yes. A total buttwipe of a plumber who came to fix the tap where it attaches.
We're in for a few days of rain here apparently. Lucky I have a massive stash.
Gah. I guess you could see what the council says. They may just ask you to move it a bit further away, so it can't fall in?
Or at least, they might tell you exactly what would have to be done for it to be okay.
as if little squirts are illegal? So so many people would be caught out by it!!
I have my old one which i plan on reattaching once bubs is born....
I am actually on the look out for some cheap newborn/small covers, i have a heap of prefolds but no covers and dont really want to pay full price so if anyone knows anyone please feel free to pm me :)
Ness - I think I have some maz covers in small (will check later tonight and let you know)
Audax yeah I'd definitely just remove little squirt before audit, although I think its pretty ridiculous I mean its not likely to get left in toilet bowl (eww!) or cause problems if it was accidentally in there, and isn't it Australian owned (and made?) company? I don't actually have one but anyways.
Ness I got given around a dozen small fuzzy buns covers just last week that I'd be happy to give you some of. But the elastics a lil iffy on most and would obviously have to post. Pm if you want more info etc.
Yay for me... I managed to nab 3 (as new) bbh night nappies and covers for ds2 for wait for it.... $10!!! For all of it, I'm so happy coz I'd been looking for ages and now to get such a bargain for him means I won't have to beat myself up too much about spending so much for a few more each for the other children :D
Carrie re stinkies a longer wash isn't likely to do much (unless you have on a really short wash). I'd suggest a strip wash and then prerinsing if you don't already or just extra rinse at end of wash. Sun drying if you don't already also.
Lady neon if you ended up going to booloo babe the other week and want flushable liners perhaps try pop in there again sometime and grab some if theres so no postage? I found after a lot of just making do lol that liners are so wonderful in a way especially for little bubbas coz it takes much longer go wash out poos that have 'soaked' into the nappy than older bubs that most just tips off. Just my opinion :)
12 Baby Beehind nappies (blue, orange, green and purple)
4 BBH day covers - large
2 BBH wool night covers - large
2 BBH magicalls pocket nappies
4 Parents & Pumpkins pocket nappies (Adelaide made)
All the above nappies fit newborn to toddler
4 large Fuzzi Bunz pocket nappies
5 large Starbunz pocket nappies (monkey, tiger, bear, ladybird and dog)
All nappies have the liners/stuffing they came with plus I have
2x large Starbunz hemp liners
8 microfibre cloths
38 cotton wipes (need to be overlocked)
2 muslin throws
1 bunny rug, 2 pillowcases, 2 x nappy changing mats
All bought new except the Fuzzi Bunz and 1 Starbunz.
all this for $200. Little Squirt $40. So $240 for it all.
This is the stash I bought today. A few are a bit sun faded but I'm not worried about that. Woo hoo can't wait until they are washed and folded ready to use!
By the way am I being anal by washing my nappies by :
Rinse cycle
Wash
Rinse cycle
Air dry for 24hrs
Is this too much? Or just right?
I do:
Rinse (with deep rinse on extra dirty)
Wash
Rinse
Dry in sun (unless it's like now where we have 300-400mm of rain in 24hrs :/ then they get dried inside)
I have front loader and do:
*quick rinse
*long cold cycle
*extra rinse
*then plenty of sun
I wash with either Charlie's soap or rockin green, so don't need to do strip washes.
Ah-ha! So I'm doing it right. Yay!
Edit: I forgot to say I'm using Earth Choice 'Purity' for sensitive skin. I use that for all my baby clothes.
sounds right Chrispe. What a great stash you got.
WOHB rain bow might nappy with purple maz cover
Hsm - wow yay on the great nn buy! And yeah you're right the longer cycle didn't do much for the stench. Will try the strip next week thanks. I'm also just using omo and plan on getting ecostore, not sure if that will make a difference!
Chrispe - congrats on the new stash, sounds like a great buy. See you decided on getting the little squirt too! The washing sounds right, though I'm no expert... Have fun trying them out!
Chrispe yeah sounds fine about the wash. You probably don't need to insist on 24hr Sun once the nappys fully dry is enough. You might like to also hand rinse first if you have a front loader? That's what I've started doing in the last fortnight since going from my twintub to my brothers VERY slow and water saving front loader. Woohoo for you on the nappy grab too what a steal! :D
Cattie please stop using enzymes on your beautiful mcn's! Lol... I use purity by natures organics and really like it (bonus of it being cheap too ;)) you could try adding some bicarb and/or white vinegar to your loads in the meantime??
doesnt vinegar hurt the pul?
Yay yay yay!! Fluffy mail part 2 arrived today!!!!
Itti bitti new season colours. Ooohhhh!! How exciting!!! Shame it's raining here and they won't dry if I wash them.
3509
Does omo have enzymes? Argh! I read on here (I think...) some people using omo so thought it would be fine until I get myself to a woolies for ecostore (we usually shop at Coles) Might have to rush out and get some today! Thanks! I wanted to try vinegar but read mixed reviews on it so didn't want to take the risk...
Hsm have you tried your new nn yet?
Fl - yay love fluffy mail! The weather is a bit dreary today...
I use Planet Ark Aware Sensitive. DS's wee has a very strong ammonia smell and I wash every 2 days, no smells here.
Vinegar can damage PUL and elastics I've heard, though I'm not sure why.
Only leave in sun until dry. You don't want them to fade or damage the elastics.
I use Earth Choice, still with less than for a normal load.
DP copped a big stinky nappy today while I was working. ;) He still left it for me to clean up though, so I'll have to work on that.
Our woollen longies and extra cover arrived this week! The longies are purple and so pretty. Can't wait for it to be cold enough to put on her.
WOHB: Pretty flowers TotsBots AIO with extra stuffing
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure using only a tablespoon in each wash shouldnt really affect the pul and if really worried doing in wash not rinse will definitely all get washed off before has anytime to do real damage. It is acidic obviously but usually you have to soak whatever you're deep cleaning with it for a good hour or more. I haven't noticed it deteriorating any of my nappies, the only ones I have had trouble with are the couple my sister borrowed and washed in hot water with strong detergent every wash- major bummer!
Cattie i actually havnt even got my NNs yet, I ended up getting friends to grab them for me to save me postage or driving an hr and a half, should get them at church Sunday
Fl & Jen yay for lovely fluffy mail! :D
Thanks ladies for the suggestions! Umm so if I want to try bicarb do I mix it with the detergent or is it instead? Will definitely try the strip too but no time yet, maybe next week.
Jennifer that sounds like something my dh would do, hope the mess wasn't too yuck!
Hsm yay for saving postage, I try to save postage whenever possible too it just somehow seems like a waste...
So, who else went nuts in the itti sale?
Not me, I have decided that the leak factor is too big. Even with all their cute colours and patterns. No more ib for me.
I love my ittis but spent enough at their last sale.
On the laundry front I've been using rockin green since I started MCNs and have been happy with the results.
Tempted, but want to wait for the new prints and colors! Though the seconds tutto's are a good buy hmm....
I was thinking of trying itti bittis, but I think my boy will be too much of a piddle pot.
Managed to get the my new BBH dry by this arvo. So loving them!
WOKB- Blue BBH bamboo.
DD just threw a tanty because I put an itti bitti on her. She wanted a sposie. Damn that pooh bear  I have enough nappies to last up to 6 days :o so I'm definitely not buying more :) I'm hoping DD will TT soon & then I'll be done with nappies forever :)
WOEB: large baby pink IB d'lish.
Just gotta share my joy in mcn and gumtree again... I got three as new superundies (that I'd been thinking of buying new for $28-35 each!) For $40 today! Yay  and as a kinda bonus included in the sale is a heap of bambooty nappies 12 or 18 I think, with extra boosters and all their little wetbags. They were really.free coz most have pretty bad staining from zinc creams and storage. But considering I don't consider I paid for them even if I can't salvage much from them I'm still super happy :D
Btw LN thanks for mentioning the itti bitti sale (not sure if I'm being sarcastic or not here lol) I ended up getting another wet bag a few seconds tuttos and breast pads... I'm sure i didn't NEED any of it but oh well
Woo hoo HSM!
Lol about itti bitti sale, I've had to stop myself......
Please please can I have a bit of advice? We use ofsm nappies and it doesn't seem to matter which brand we use, we get leg leakage. The nappies seem to be fitting snugly round the legs but we are always springing leaks. This is a new thing probably in the last month or so. What am I doing wrong?
TIA :)
I'm no mcn expert but maybe your babies have been peeing quicker lately not giving the nappy time to absorb it so it leaks out the legs? Or if you're using pockets maybe the insert is scrunching up too much? Though I doubt that would have just happened in the last month! Sorry I'm not much help, hopefully someone more experienced will come along :)
hsm you go with the shopping, you're great at bargain hunting! Hope some of the freebies turned out ok.
Chrispe how are you going with your new stash?
Well I think I need more nappies, I counted on them drying in a day but that's not always happening lately, and will only be worse in winter.... told dh i need a dryer but he said i may as well spend the money on more nappies  Stripped all of them this week using morning fresh and 60 deg, they are smelling better (tho still not fantastic). Bought ecostore and trying different washing programs so hopefully I figure out the perfect wash routine soon!
Loving my BBH. Some of the stash (the funni bums) I bought are a bit overused (delaminated.) but not my BBH! Checked their website and they have a summer sale on too! Have ordered a couple of extra covers. Reminds me I need to go rinse the poohy nappies from when I was shopping this morning. (He pooed 3 times! In 6 hrs.)
WOKB- BBH purple bamboo with blue cover.
just a random trick I have recently discovered. If bub poos. wait a little while (few hours) until the nappy absorbs all the moisture from it and the poo dries out, it then makes it easier to squirt/scrape off into the loo!! (rather than trying to do it to a sloppy thing) =)
Lol thanks. It's going to be something like that now anyway.
