I love my mazalicious nn with wool cover. Lasts amazingly. I also have a beetlebums nn that is brilliant, but would probably be hard to come by one unless you stalk the BSS page on fb. The one thing I swear by for nights is wool covers, they saved my sanity.
Thanks, I'll check out these brands though I just bought three boo's, hmm... Sepata why are wool covers so great? I'm thinking of getting or knitting one...
forgot I use a few gf night nappies as well.
I do have one gf nn for ds1 but honestly for some reason ive only ever had him wear it for day sleeps without the snap in booster. Really should give it a go for nights, at least I could probably get away with not buying more for him straight away then (have a super undies to).
I still wasn't able to get hold of the girls at booloo aus baby supplies or rc baby creations, felt like everyone was against me buying nappies from them today lol

I've just started using MCNs on my 4month old boy. So far I've got some china cheapy nappies (friend was selling them) and some eBay specials.
They seem to be fine for now. :)
I was just wondering what some of the abbreviations mean? ( ie WOHB?)

The wool covers are my favourite for night too. They breathe without leaking and the nappy seems to dry a little bit (or at least, it's nowhere near as soaked when I take it off). It's also softer and comfy, no digging around legs and bellies. Plus, it's completely covering the nappy and then some.
They only need airing between uses, unless soiled, and they don't retain smell. I lanolised mine before use so they really last in the waterproofing dept.
I tried making my own, but I'm a bit slow and only got one done. I also found some Disanas on a US website much cheaper than any I've seen over here.

Chrispe, I have some eBay cheapies too, while they don't hold as much, I've found them super soft and comfy, plus dh likes them cos they're the easiest to whip on :) I wondered what the abbreviation meant too, took me awhile to figure out lol! Are you mcn-ing full time or trying it out?

Well my boo's have held up fine, no leaks but I definitely need a better cover, I can see potential leak areas! Sounds like wool is the way to go!

Trying cloth is one of my new years resolutions.
My SIL told me today she is also going cloth (mix of MCN and old style cloth) we are both sick of forking out so much money to literally throw it in the bin!
Anyone here use totsbots bamboozles as nn? Love love love and we've NEVER had a leak. They are fab!

I have heaps of tots bots MCNs (picked up about 10 from someone on Gumtree in perfect condition for $10 each). They're the ones I keep especially for the nanny and DP. Never had a leak with the normal ones. I also got some of their pull ups, they look really good.
Currently, nappy changes are hard, because DD2 won't lie down still for long enough!

Ok fellow mcn lovers. Is there any point in using a liner if DD's poos are runny from bm/ formula feeding? She's 14 weeks old.
Also, should I be rinsing them in a bucket before putting in dry pail?
I do a rinse in the washing machine before the wash.
How important is it to do a warm or hot wash for nappies like the directions say? I'm currently doing a cold wash with ecologic laundry liquid.

I wouldn't bother with liners til she's a bit older and on solids. I also don't bother rinsing before dry pailing and also wash on normally cold or lukewarm. I'll save the hot washes for strip washing. Just MHO - see what others say!
We use liners (DS is 4 months on not on solids) which are flushable as well as washable. So if it's a pooey nappy, we drop the liner in the loo, carrying ,most of the poo with it. If it's just wet, it goes into the bucket with the nappies. We get maybe 4-5 washes out of each liner before they become too tatty to effectively catch poo.
I prefer the idea that most of the poo goes into the loo, not into my washing machine. And pooey nappies can leave bits of poo above the waterline on the central stem (it's a top-loader) when you drop them in, which would get on other things in the next wash. I love my liners. We also have a Little Squirt (which power-hoses the poo into the loo) to handle any poo that gets through the liner or onto the cover.
Our nappies (GroVia hybrids) do fine with a cold rinse then cold wash - we use eco-balls.

DD2's poos are still mostly runny-ish at 12 mths, and I find the flushable liners are a huge help - I'm only sorry I waited so long to try them! Means most of what I have to rinse off with the nappy sprayer is flushed, leaving me less work. I don't leave dirty nappies in the bucket until they're rinsed (which I usually do immediately). Too much chance of staining if I don't wash for a couple of days. We have a lot of nappies, so I only wash a couple of times a week.
Yep I'd use liners for even a little bub now too! I didn't for my first few coz itti bitti (what I nearly always use) say you don't have to but makes SUCH a difference I think you'll be amazed :D like pholi I have flushable that can also go in washing machine, I've tried practically every kind out there and these are imho the best by far & going on previous posts very likely the same brand as pholi, tho I got some for sil and she didn't like them coz she's using peapods and said they shrunched up a bit or something- I've never had that happen :dunno: as for rinsing I only rinse if there's extra poo the liner missed or a really strong wee, otherwise just drypail and cold rinse before cold/warm wash. Nearly all mcn you shouldnt regularly hot wash and even a strip should only be 60'c max I'm pretty sure- works for me anyways ;)
Btw nope still no luck getting night nappies as yet but its mostly coz I've got questions to ask before I buy and still haven't been able to get hold of anyone, weird really. Tbh I'd like something to pop up on gumtree that I can pick up when I head to the city tomorrow but doesn't look likely unfortunately.

Hi FL :) As you know I haven't been mcn-ing much longer than you, but I used to use liners, and I find they do help a lot, most of the poo even if runny gets caught and there's only a bit on the sides left. But dd doesn't poo too often so I ditched the liners for now. When she does poo, I get off as much as I can with tissue then I actually soak it in plain water, I don't like the idea of poo floaties in the machine.
And I know you don't need to rinse before dry-pailing, but I do... it makes me feel better lol! I might stop it but for now I don't find it much effort. Plus it means if I want to wash every three days instead of two, at least the nappies haven't been seeping in pee for three days!
I wash on 30degrees, but I think the itti bitti instructions said to occasionally do a 60deg wash so I might do that, haven't yet.
pholi or hsm, what brand liners are you guys using?

just went to bunnings and got everything I need to make a little squirt for $30. helps DH's cousin is the plumbing expert at our store so he got me exactly what i need and showed me how to do it. so if anyone else needs to know what you need i can let you know =)
The itti liners are the best I have tried but I got some cheapies that do the job. DD2 is predictable with poos now so I just use them in the morning until she goes and then don't bother. I can probably go back to ittis at one a day but I now have two 200 packs.
Ooh yes please, I want to do it when we move in a few months, was gonna try DIY as the original seems pricey for what it is...
Ooo I'm excited! Just found someone on Baby Bargains selling her entire twins stash for $200. Mostly BBH and some 'sunbum' (I think that's what she said) going to pick them up Thursday!
You can get cheaper versions of them online too. Ours was $40.

I have used itti liners and tbh I couldn't wait to use them up! (no offense Jen ;)) I found they were practically falling apart as I was taking them out of the nappy even with just wees. My second favorite would be happy babes but have found I had to very carefully hand wash if only wet and could really only get away with two uses before chucking coz they were 'holey', so in short I really like the liners from booloo babe, I haven't tried the bamboo ones coz I figured I wouldn't get as much use out of them. All depends on what you want tho.

I bought liners from woolworths after a dear bb buddy told me about them, they seem fine but I haven't tried anything else. I'm not sure they're flushable tho, and never tried washing cos they're so cheap anyway!
The ad says approx 24 nappies, mostly BBH. When I rang she said she didn't know exactly how many nappies there were- but is a giant Ikea bag full! I'm checking them out next Thursday. Also she has a 'little squirt' for $50. Thinking about getting it, but will I need it if I use bamboo liners? If anybody else is interested in it PM me and we can organize something.
At the moment I'm still using sposies as night nappies. Apparently there are a few BBH NN in this bundle, so I'm hoping to go straight cloth after this week. I figure if I can get a stash nappies for under $400 that's less than what I pay for a years worth of sposies!
Also I put my 17kg toddler in a MCN today! (just an eBay special I found, Aussie homemade)

And no offence taken, HSM. Different things work on different bubs. ;) They are softer than the no name brand I'm currently using, so probably would be more inclined to fall apart. I probably don't have them on my DD2 for that long. Part of why I liked them is that they are so soft she can barely tell they're there. ITMS.

I don't use liners. Mostly cause he wears itti's during the day and his poop still gets on the pooh fence. Doesn't bother me to squirt it off. That, and I cannot find flushable liners in my local Coles, Woolies or pharmacies. And I'm too cheap to pay post. Haha.

So I've found dd's overnight swaddle has a pee smell, even though I'm pretty sure there's no leak. Does anyone else find this? I was thinking after I get my breathable covers, it might get worse since it's meant to let some pee evaporate?!

I love my Little Squirt (best baby shower gift EVER, thank you big sis!), but learnt something interesting just before Christmas - We had a plumber in, doing some work in our bathroom (which is separate to the toilet) but he saw the Little Squirt in the toilet, and told us that they are actually illegal! The problem is that IF you left the head of it lying in the toilet bowl, in the water, and something happened to the mains on your supply line, there's a possibility that it could suck up toilet water which would then enter and contaminate the mains. I can't really understand it, but that's basically what he said. He also added that Australia's incredibly strict laws on things like this are the reason that our mains water is consistently safe to drink, and it's why it is not safe to drink in many developing countries.
He didn't report us to anyone, thank goodness, and we would never leave it resting in the bowl anyway, but I thought I'd pass on this bit of information. I haven't bothered going on line to verify it independently, but tbh we use it too much to want to get rid of it.
Wow, Pholi, never heard of that either! We've had a plumber in who never said anything about it. But he was a toss pot.
Bubblebubs liners are my fave. We only use them on holidays though.
I need to do a massive nappy cull. I over purchased for two in cloth, so some have to go, and some are really on their last legs, and I'm starting to prefer terry flats anyway.
