Melissa! If you're out there! We had a tots bots leak tonight, as soon as I'd put it on. I realised that I haven't been stuffing the booster into the pocket, and that's when it leaks. Don't know if that helps you, but I'm going to try it.
So a little update on my deteriorating nappies - also posted on the thread I started: GroVia has come to the party and offered to replace the 17 damaged soakers out of my stash of 24. :) The rep was shocked at the condition of the worst one, and her only suggestion for cause was possible acid wee. Meanwhile, DS has two teeth poking through now, so he was definitely teething.

just a minor ***** here... Spock is 9 months, you would think DH would know how to snap a nappy together... I even have to tell him which bits go with what nappy and then put them together for him. I do not appreciate being woken up to do that...

TT40 sigh men just seem to find mcn's complicated, my dh has just started to get the hang of it and I definitely need them all put together and ready to go for him.
Well dd's rash has gotten worse, the only thing that helps is some moogoo with sposie overnight - in the morning the redness is almost gone but comes back when I switch to cloth :( I've tried moogoo, nappy-free time, canesten rinse, changing more frequently but still red...
TT I've been doing cloth for nearly 7 years....my DH would not have a clue. I leave the bits together if I know he's going to have to do it. I feel your pain.

Cattie, I wonder if your DD could be sensitive to the laundry liquid/ powder that you're using?? What brand did you swap to?
TT I'm with Kim, we've been in cloth for four years and DH is still terrible with the nappies. When we are using the one sort he is fine, and can generally snap them together ok, but when we have two in cloth and are using all our AIOs as well as the fitteds, DH is terrible. He is happy to sit and put them together if I give him piles and say "those go with those, off you go" but if I give him a huge basket all mixed up, he's lost.
I try and make sure there are clean nappies ready for the next day before I go to bed, so I don't get woken up with questions like that ;)
Cattle that is no good about DD's bottom! I remember you asking about strip washes, have you stripped lately? And yes, the washing powder could be reacting - what are you using?
Cattie, during this troublesome period where I noticed the nappy deterioration, DS started to get a really angry red nappy rash, too. It basically covered the entire region under the nappy, not just the bits at the front that would be exposed most to his wee. We barely kept it under control with liberal coatings of MagicStick, but as soon as his teeth came though it has disappeared, so I wonder if he is prone to extremely acidic wee with teething. So could yours be teething? Has she been ok before, in cloth? And have you tried adding extra stay-dry type liners - a couple of layers of microfleece, for example?
Wow thanks for all the suggestions ladies :) I switched from omo to ecostore, so maybe next wash I'll try detergent-free and see if that helps, or I'll do the strip wash - last strip was prob a month ago.
The redness is at the front and on the leg crack (iykwim) so I think it is from the pee, Pholi she may be starting to teeth as i think her pee has been more smelly lately and she is at the age (almost 5 months). Is micro fleece the same as polar fleece? Can I get it at lincraft?

OP that's impressive your dh can put together nappies at all - I might mention that to my dh and see if he takes up the challenge lol
Cattie, my DS was the same age when this all started for us. Our nappy covers have a fine liner of some sort of synthetic, and I think that the liner distributed the wee all over as soon as it started to soak through the insert, which is why the redness was all over. Changing him more often helped a bit, too - he was definitely worse if we only changed him once in a sleep-play-feed cycle, and was better is we changed him before and after every sleep.
Re microfleece vs polar fleece, I think they are similar but not the same. I use the microfleece I bought from an online nappy fabric supplier, and I've read that polar fleece from your local Spotlight isn't the same thing, or doesn't work the same way, or something, but I'm not sure.
no, they aren't the same. The micro fleece draws wetness away, whereas polar keeps it in. Polar fleece is used for covers. But yes, you can get it at spotlight.

Thanks guys, I went to lincraft and bought some called micro polar fleece, I hope it's right, it was more pricey than regular polar fleece so hmm fingers crossed!
Cattie I've only ever found microfleece online. It's quite cheap. I'm not sure any polar fleece is right as it repels liquid, as compared to microfleece that draws it away quickly. I know a few online providers if you're interested.
My dh can put the pockets together, otherwise he's clueless.

Ladies I wouldn't mind some advice- I'm bummed because the covers of all of my Cheeky Butts pocket MCNs have completely lost their elastic in the legs... I've dealt with a few side explosions because of it even after adjusting the snaps. They are well less than a year old so not happy at all. I'm thinking I could buy some new pocket nappies - just the shells- and reuse the inserts but I don't want to buy Cheeky Butts again. Do you think I could use the inserts in another brand?
I'd be happy to replace the elastics for a few dollars each. Pm me if you're interested.
I hate it when the elastics go in mine, but so far it's been more random, the odd nappy of different brands here and there. I think some were secondhand, so I don't expect them to last as well. And one I think I just didn't use the right setting and stretched it beyond capacity a few times. I'm keeping mine because I know elastic is replaceable. I just don't need to do anything about it because my stash is big enough anyway. Shame about the Cheeky Butts though. Mine are going okay after 13 mths, although I didn't use the one size ones until about 3 mths. I'll keep an eye. I use the inserts from all of my nappies interchangeably. Some I like more than others!

Audax - thanks for that :) We have been trying to be really vigilant about making sure the pockets were tucked well in and have been in touch with our retailer who thinks it is build up of barrier cream. Seems a bit weird to be as it does seem a bit more about delamination but we have tried everything she suggested. But tbh, we got so sick of having to change clothes all the time that we started using a cover over the top, then entered a phase of horrendous sleep deprivation and whether or not the soaking we have done has had any effect has just gone by the wayside for the time being. Great with covers though!!!!
So I went to a nappy workshop the other day and we got told that nappies that work really well when bub is x months old may not be so great further down the track which got me thinking about trying a few different sorts of nappy. We've always used easyfits, have a couple of tuttos which weren't the best at first but now I love them and I have just bought a few grovias to try as well (plus a few custom made absolutely beautiful embroidered wool covers that I am waiting on . . . and so the addiction begins :redface:). What are your all time favourite day nappies that are both pretty and reliable?
Miss G has started teething and has hideous nappy rash. We were shocked at how quickly it came on as neither girl has ever had it before but one day she was fine, the next all raw and weepy looking. Any tips for helping the healing process? We are trying to give her loads of nappy free time but it never seems quite long enough to let the damp bits dry and heal over properly. TIA :)
mel ~ thats how Spocks rash started. fine one day next day was raw and bleeding and blisters. its very nearly cleared now. I put moogoo and bm on evrry change, changed every 2hrs max, if there is a poo change straight away. and nappy free time. this alone didnt clear it. it stopped it getting worse but was still bad. the turning point was when Audax sent me some microfiber liners so I could use zinc cream. Ive only really been putting one on her night nappy, putting zinc on the open sore bits and then lathering the rest of her bum in moogoo and now we only have one tiny open bit and just skin discolouration thsts getting better!!!

Just checking - do you mean microfleece? Cos microfleece and microfibre are totally different, and I didn't think it was a good idea to use microfibre as a liner, but microfleece is great!:

No, it made perfect sense, apart from that... We instigated the same kind of care when DS went from beautiful skin to bright red and flaking skin like severe sunburn, within 24 hours.
Id just hate for someone else to read the thread later and make microfibre liners as a result!
I love my itti bitti delish nappies. I've got itti bitti, bambooty and Cheeky Butts in my stash. Itti bitti absorb really well, are a nice fit - DD is long but skinny- and I rarely get side escapes. Love the bambooty too- I personally prefer the look of a pul cover over a minky and I love the sweet pastel colours of the bambooty. I also have some bambooty strawberry and ballerina prints and Ive got easy dry and easy peasy versions. When DD was smaller though I had lots of side seeping issues with the bambooty- I don't think they were absorbent enough around the legs where the lining was slightly thinner. But not she's older they are fine. And I'm now waiting on my coco baby print pockets which look so beautiful!
I'm totally obsessed with my MCNs. I love washing, folding and stacking them... It's really weird how much I love them!
So by using the microfleece liners, will this stop the zinc cream from coating the nappy itself?
How long did it take for the angriness to go away? She doesn't seem quite as bothered now but it still looks nasty.

Where do you get micro fleece liners? How do they not impede the absorbency? DD has had a nasty teething nappy rash and we use Burt's bees bum cream but the cream seems to penetrate through our nappy liners (the flushable ones) and I to the nappy itself.
Microfleece is quick absorbing, a lot of nappies are lined with it, and thicker than flushable liners. So they tend to stop creams getting through. But if you were to put on lots of cream, you would have to eventually throw out your liner. But its much cheaper than a whole new nappy.

Not enough nappies are lined with it! I find it really hard to find them, everyone uses suede cloth these days. Cream buildup does stop them wicking, I watched DD2 wee all over an old one the other day, and the wee just rolled right off. Might need to make some new ones.:
Our Green Kids pockets have been brilliant. Two full years of use, and they've collected a bit of lint, but are otherwise still in really good condition. The old Monkey Doodlez pockets are great too, but impossible to find.

My NB MCNs were microfleece lined and were great. I love my microfleece covers as well. My favourite inserts are the BBH bamboo ones though. Those never die and absorb heaps.

For those using creams on angry nappy rash one of the best I've found for open weeping sores is Bepanthen antiseptic nappy cream, it really helps heal the sores fast. Other than that zinc creams like sudocreme and curash cream are what I used to use. Baby K hasn't had a rash since switching to cloth. :D if I had used cloth for all my others they probably wouldn't have had so many rashes either. In fact the only times Baby K has had anything close to a rash was after wearing a pocket nappy (synthetic materials). At home we use BBH bamboo fitted and I've been using BBH Magic-Alls when out and about. Love love love bamboo! Anyway must go fold nappies then off to bed!

DD only gets a rash around teething times. We use Burt's Bees and it is wonderful.
