I use a fair bit of water, but yeah, sometimes it just doesn't do the job once they're on solids. TBH if its a really gooey pooey bum then I will reach for a good old huggies wipe - my DH just won't use cloth wipes so there are always some lying around for him to use.
The Mustela is excellent for poo. But we have wipes too, for DH.
I've only ever used just water. Usually tap water as I'm going to change a bum, but I know some swear by camomile tea. There are heaps of 'recipes' on the net, but I'm always worried they'll go mouldy if they are prewet and sitting in a tub.
I never have a prob getting poo off, but after all these years, I don't tend to take no for an answer lol. If it's really bad, I squirt a bit of baby lotion (Gaia is my preferred brand ATM) or bum cream on the wipe and wipe with that.
Hmm I was also thinking maybe something like vegesorb- because people suggest when babies are tiny to clean with sorbolene but I don't want to use sorbolene. What I want is a water soluble oil! Which alas doesn't exist naturally.
Ps DD is a bit skin sensitive so I don't like to go over the same area too much.
WM, with the canesten rinse, if I'm going to use it on nappies, do I use it in the fabric softener section of the washing machine after a normal nappy wash cycle or instead of the washing liquid please?
I put mine in the softener bit.
LL that's why I use the lotion. If you use one that soaks into the skin rather than a barrier one like sorbolene, it does the same thing but isn't harmful to the nappies.
Fl - I've used canesten in the fabric softener part, with usual powder in the detergent part. But I read (prob on IB fb page) not to use it much as it builds up on the nappies - I did find them still smelling of canesten several washes after. But if you need to disinfect for a reason then that's fine :)

As soon as I see poo I get out the disposable wipes! I also use any clean ends after wiping bum to get poo off the nappy. For pee I use just water, and I apply moogoo after every change (when I'm home)
I just wipe with water, have never had an issue.
DD1 is fully toilet trained now. We went on a big road trip, came home and she wanted underpants. And has had nothing but, ever since, and no accidents. Just like that. So an epic destashing must occur. I can't justify 100+ nappies for one baby!
A girl I went to high school with won 4 nappies in the nappy hunt and her youngest just toilet trained, so she emailed me and asked if I want them- woohoo!

Ok girls thanks for the tips re bum cleaning. After saying how much I love the mustela I'm suddenly thinking it's building up a bit because I've been so puzzled lately- I did a toothbrush and detergent scrub of some nappies a while back because I could see nappy cream building up, rinsed rinsed rinsed etc but suddenly the surfaces are discoloured, like a super pale creamy beige colour. I thought maybe I hadn't rinsed the detergent properly but now maybe it's the mustela? Not sure.
I've been wondering something similar Ladylove. Wondering if moo goo msm is nappy safe. It doesn't have zinc in it and we are using liners but I'm nervous about damaging my stash. DD has nappy rash at the mo and I like to use a zinc based cream to help clear it up so she's in disposables. An I being overly cautious? I'm using pea pods bamboo flushable liners.
Eta: my nappies never smell clean except when I do a strip wash. I'm using Ecologic laundry liquid. Has anyone used Abode laundry products or tri nature? What do you love to wash your nappies in? Rockin green still isn't available. Does anyone know why?

I use earth choice to wash, no smells but i always line dry so maybe that helps. I did have a smell problem with some microfibre nappies a while back but it sorted itself somehow, I think I did a hot wash once ( which isn't recommended with the particular nappies) but it worked.
I wash in method. It's sold through Enjo in Aust. Quite big overseas but here you have to get it through Enjo.
Reading through the recent posts I'm struck by how much I haven't bothered to think about all these things over my nappy using years... For creams we use nature's child bottom balm when very young, then bepanthen when older. Have never worried about whether its doing bad things to my nappies!
We use method as I said above, I do a strip wash when I think they are getting smelly and do a canestan rinse when I'm worried someone has had a touch of gastro or similar.
Water to wipe and clean bums. Only ever water. I've only got disposable wipes in the nappy bag for emergencies, so they don't get used at home.
I use method too. I found Ecostore did make them smell a bit. However, saying that it comes highly recommended, but we have the hardest water in Australia here, and that makes condition's a bit different.
Wow OP you used bepanthen without a liner and all ok? Dd was struck with bleeding rash on saturday - it came so quickly after just one poo left too long :( So we switched to sposies and lathered on the sudocream. Now it's not as bad, I'm back to cloth with bepanthen and liner - I can't see on the bepanthen box that it has zinc but it's still pretty sticky... so I'm a little worried!
Fl after we moved I've found my pee smelling nappy problem improve dramatically even with mostly inside drying due to rain lately. And we haven't moved far so I thought the water conditions would be similar! Dh thinks it's maybe the difference in pipes but it's just one of those mysteries in life I reckon lol. Sorry that doesn't help you I know...

Yep - have used bepanthen on DS2 overnight, no liner. I prob need to start using liners again now that he's having solids but we haven't yet and our nappies are ok.
The normal one or the antiseptic?

I swear by it too. We use both of them - one all the time (well, frequently, but not every nappy change) and one for rashy outbreaks.
OP which one is for what? I wasn't sure so bought the ointment. Dd's rash is almost better but I'm afraid that will change upon her next poo...
Ok, trapped under a sleeping baby so I can't look at the tubes, but going by what they look like - we use the one that has a screw on lid, blue coloured tube, all the time.
The other one is a white tube with blue writing, with a flip cap. Like a tooth paste tube. We use that one for bad flare ups.
Wonder if their website can help me... Lol, sorry...
Edit: the ointment for every day. The antiseptic cream for outbreaks.

DP put an itti bitti sio on DD this morning without the liner( I found it on the floor later on) with a zinc based cream. Aaaarrehhhhgggggg!! Help! How do I get the zinc cream out of the hourglass shaped booster please?
A bit of detergent or shampoo or velvet soap direct onto the marked area then add a teeny bit of water and work into the area with an old toothbrush. Then rinse a few times.
Spock can undo her velcro nappy covers I use for overnight. any recommendations on covers that snap?
Tt sorry no recommendations for snap covers really but what about wool or fleece? Google picanini for a really reasonably priced fleece imo, tho I haven't used them I'm considering it so feel free to let me know how you go if you decide to try them ;)
Thanks Ladylove. I used a bit of dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush and it seems to have done the job.
TT - I love Sugarpeas fleece covers that snap on the side for nights. Also love my Disana wool covers. Motherease have a cover with snaps too.
I bought DD2 some new BBH covers and nappies on sale. They're all in large. *sob* My baby is growing too fast!

TT I like Candies (Bubblebubs)covers, side snapping (minky?). DD never worked out how to get them off before TT at 26 months.
Oops should add I didn't use them with a specific night nappy, just boosted them with Candies inserts.
hi! Spock has a problem with her bum...but I have comprimised and said I will buy 1 box of disposables and use them for a week. they are disgusting! the smell and I can hear the plastic when she walks and her pants keep falling down cause there is no cute fluffy bum to hold them up =(
I got sone 2nd hand covers! but can't use them yet =(
but just wanted to add...DH who wasn't convinced for so long about mcns and still on occasion thought disposables were better is a full convert now. after using these poxy things he and I quote "I now know why we use those other ones, these are horrible! "

no different, if anything it is bleeding more since changing to disposables.
What are you using on it, TT? If DD2 gets bad (has happened once) I used the MooGoo nappy balm and sposies for a day, seemed to clear it up. She's got a couple of sore spots atm thanks to a lot of extra pooing (eating heaps of food). :( So far keeping it under control with paw paw.
its not a normal rash, I've tried everything and seeing a specilist whos done swabs etc...next step is a biopsy =(
Ah poor Spock. Good chance to strip wash and completely sun/air your stash though. If there's anything nasty, you might need to do it anyway. Hope it's resolved soon.
