Thanks for your suggestions regarding my newborn stash. I have ordered 6 prefolds, even if I don't end up needing them, can always use them in pockets later on :)
Showed my Mum and my Granny my nappy stash yesterday - gone are the days of folding & pins. They were impressed!
I have one Grovia but I don't like it TBH.
I got a Genesa Forge pretty and haven't looked back. Her nappies are just the best in terms of a really trim fit, really good absorbency and no leaks. The pretties are just beautiful, but her workhorses are still gorgeous and a good price - cheaper than the Grovia and sooooo much better - for my girl anyway ;-)

and my other dilemma. ..I seem to have misplaced a nappy... I just realised I havent seen it for a while...im dont have an extra insert floating around, so makes me think they are together somewhere, I really hope they are clean where ever they are =\
Don't use Lucas brand paw paw (red tube/tub) as that has petroleum in it so stops absorbancy

on a plus note though, I got fluffy mail today, and she accidently sent me the wrong nappy, but told me to keep it and she is going to resend the right one =) so free nappy =D
You'd better not be bumping my custom down the line sepata ;-) That's great Nikki can do you some. She is just so lovely to deal with. They don't really cost much, if anything, more than the big commercial brands and I would so much rather support the WAHMs. Plus they're so much more gorgeous
T - that's a bugger about your nappy. Hate to say it, but could you have thrown it out by mistake? I didn't have my wetbag when I was out one day when L was only a few weeks old and so used a nappy sack, and it obviously got thrown out by mistake - one of my favourite nappies and the most gorgeous all in one that was the victim of a pooplosion so it was in the bag too. So annoyed with myself still. I hope that's not the case for you, and that its just fallen behind some drawers, caught up in a wrap or something. What fluffy mail did you get?
If you need any other suggestions, I use Aromababy nappy balm and its beautiful, and no problem with MCNs

Tt oh no! Under the seat or in the boot of the car?? Hope you find it soon. As for pawpaw I've just started using natures care baby pawpaw and so far I quite like it, can get it just in the baby isle at woolies its in a big pink tube and definitely has no petrochemicals.
Lulu I'm so sad for you losing lovely nappies I would be mortified if I threw out any mcn... Have rescued a few the children have 'helped' with over time by putting in the bin! I love your suggestion on gf teenys tho maybe I can get in on the customs while shell be making them anyway ;)
On another note has anyone got suggestions for staining? I only have one nappy that stains (it did from the very first poo!) It's a bumgenius organic elemental and it makes me sad I can never fully get the poo marks out coz its my favorite nappy to use for ds2 at night but he often does a stinker as soon as he wakes so I'm not sure if I want to buy more if I can't work out someway to keep them looking nice like all my other nappies. Any suggestions?
You could try using velvet or sunshine soap on it K and then putting it stain side up lying flat in the sun. I've found lots of sun time generally moves poo stains. Its panadol stains I struggle with.
Can you put a liner in at night if this is main time he stains the nappy? you can get washables or disposables.
Hmm could try some sunshine soap on it but has been strip washed and that didn't move it. I always dry in the sun (and lots of it here in wa atm) which always works on other nappies just not this one for some reason. I also always have a liner in it, only a flushable though maybe I should try a microfleece? Tho not having a lil squirt and ds often doing not so solid poos I don't really like that idea :)
Btw lulu the gf nappies you mentioned did you just mean small trimsies?
Maybe its the particular fabric of that nappy - I know some of mine hold poo stains more than others.
No, not trimsies. Genesa Forge has her own designs. They're quite similar to trimsies, but maybe a little more generous in sizing. If you want to have a look at them compared to trimsies feel free to drop in sometime and have a look - I just might have a few of both styles ;-)
As for my bumgenius nappy I'm pretty certain its the fabric to, just double checked and its organic cotton so I guess it likes holding onto stains a lot more than other fabrics?
That's interesting about the gf nappies coz I emailes her asking about them as 'teeny weenys' and she replied back saying she wasnt sure what I meant but maybe it was the trimsies. :dunno:
Hmmm. Bit confusing isn't it. Maybe she thought you were referring to teeny weeny as a brand rather than as a reference to them just being newborn sizes, so thought you had that confused with the trimsies brand? The website shows her small size starting at fitting a 3.5kg bubba. She's got her kids on holidays at the moment so maybe she was a bit distracted.
Miss A went into her first medium GF at 4 months old, and she's a bit of a lightweight despite starting off as a big boofa, so I would think it wouldn't take too long before your new squishy miss was fitting the small size if she happened to not fit them at birth. I hadn't discovered GF when Miss A was born, so I can't comment on the fit on a newborn.
Both my kids have worn GF smalls from newborn - probably from about 2 weeks old? That's not because they wouldn't fit before that, more because I needed to get my money's worth out of prefolds and smaller MCNs before they got too big! They're a very flexible fit - at about 5 months, my DD1 could fit small, medium and large GFs.
Hoping you ladies might be able to give me some advice. With little miss teething at the moment, her wee is smelling quite strong and I am struggling to get that smell out of her nappies! I've tried washing and drying them in the sun a couple of times and they still smell of wee! Any idea what I can do?
Rinsing immediately was advised to me when we had very strong wee and resultant damage to the fibres of the nappies. I think the advise came too late for me to save the nappies, but the minute I get a whiff of ammonia now, the nappy gets rinsed before it goes in the drypail.
A tablespoon or two of bicarb to the wash helps with the smell too.

now I am officially on a ban tho... we have enough to get us through winter (I hope....no we do!) I keep trying to justify by saying im preparing for when we have 2 in nappies etc.. but have now added 10 more to the stash so that shoid do...should...

=) I dont use ittibitti..did try then when Spock was brand new and they didn't fit so sold them. I find its best to just avoid them completely now =)
Yeah I now what you mean. My chunky babies don't seems to fit Ittis either. Most of our nappies are BBH.
i'm actually an itti convert and at present they are the biggest amount in my stash- partly because they were throwing out old colours for really cheap and also because DD is fitting into smalls and mediums for now. I think they have a good resale value too. I'm finding them better than I thought esp the snap-in-ones which dry as quickly as my bambooty easy dries.
I had a look at the sale but really can;t justify buying more, or afford it- boooo
I Looovvvveeee itti's!!!! I only like the all in ones though, I just sold off all my sio's
I use mainly peapods and my own pull-ups during day, found ittis leaked around the legs. Ds can even wee through a bitti boo in 10-15mins if he does one big wee. Then I have sandmans and bbh for night with WAHM wool covers.

I've read somewhere in this thread about canesten wash. I found canesten rinse to go in the fabric softener section of the washing machine. Is this the product that people use for getting thrush out if nappies etc or is there a wash product available too please?

I have a bunch of freecycled nappies, mostly old Motherease, with a few various assorted others, and I was wondering what keind of wash others would put them through before using them - a strip wash? Canestan rinse? Normal hot wash with detergent? Something else? I think I might use these as night nappies, as well as to increase my stash for winter when it takes longer to get everything dry.

Hey BBers, does anyone know of a recipe for a no-rinse nappy wipe solution that is kind to MCNs? I use washable clothes as wipes and use a Mustela no rinse lotion and it's super gentle on DD's skin but I'd like to try making something natural. But obviously it couldn't leave any residue.
Are you talking about something to wash your cloths in, or a solution to wet them for nappy change clean-ups? Washing I just chuck them in with the nappies. Nappy changes I have the aromababy orange blossom spray. Its absolutely gorgeous in smell (although anything has to be an improvement over DD3's smelly bum!!) but is a bit exxy so TBH I use the bottle and when its almost finished just fill it up with water. I do this probably six or so times and then buy a new bottle. The orange blossom smell seems to continue for a good couple of bottle refills if you don't let it run out. I think good old plain water is just as good though

But lulu don't you find it hard to clean a pooey bottom with just water? I do!
