DD#1 has had the most horrific fungal infection that has taken months to shift with the help of steroid creams, specialised fungal creams etc.
I want to get her back into MCNs but I'm concerned the infection will come back (GP has warned me that it may be an ongoing problem until she is TT).
What nappy cream can I use while using MCNs? I wasn't using anything on her before (managed to go all her life without a single nappy rash) so I haven't used anything previously. All I know is they are supposed to mess with absorbency.
We use pretty much any cream on DD's bum (steroid cream if it needs it, or thrush cream if it's fungal, otherwise bepanthem-sp?, or a bit of paw paw) but we make sure we use a fleece liner and then a disposable liner too on the top. I find that way no cream ever touches the nappy.
I use tinderbox Calendula ointment, work really well and I have never had a problem with it on the MCN
To avoid the fungal infection, just be aware of how and how often you are washing your nappies and also how they are drying and are stored. Eucalyptus or Lavender oil in your rinse will help prevent any virus living or remaining in the nappies Good luck and I hope the little ones bum is better soon!
Anything with calendula and chamomile will help with thrush and fungal infections. Maybe try a powder instead of a cream to reduce the moisture. We use a cornstarch powder from plant essentials which has ground calendula and chamomile flowers. Also we have used the bottom balm from mother earth and cherubs kiss baby balm and they were all fine with MCN, as long as it isn't zinc based and try to avoid petroleum based too.
I'm a Moo Goo convert here. DD2 seems to get a rash everytime she poos, no matter how fast I change her nappy, so I've had to be very careful. The moogoo works well and I also use cornflour if her skin is looking a bit moist.
With the fungal rash, DD1 went through something similar and I was able to get rid of it by strip washing the nappies. As soon as the rash was clear I started using them again and didn't have another problem.
