i love i thought i wouldnt be able to do it but we are doing it occasionally we use a sposie but thats when i get lazy lol but ive only bought one pack in 3 months sometimes they get a little stinky but our bucket is outside its not hard at all lol

We moved from disposables to cloth just before DS2 was born (our boys are 17 months apart, so both were in nappies at that stage). I was very vervous at first and couldn't imagine handling a newborn in cloth as well as a toddler, so I bought a pack of newborn disposables. But very quickly I got into the swing of it and it wasn't as nearly as bad as I imagined.
I found it a bit scary at first, and was quite apprehensive about the first poo in a clothie, but once you get over the inital shock its seriously fine. Really, once you have kids and you have been spewed on, pooed on and weed on a few times, cloth nappies are nothing to fear LOL!
ive started using cloth during the day at home, Im just using the terry flats.. do i need to put a cover on? only yesterday was the first time she's weed through (onto me LOL) so im guessing im not doing it right and should be using a cover? i brought one from Big W (i think its a dymples pilcher) its a size 00 its a velcro one but its awefully tight and the inside of the legs arent covered, am i usingf the wrong size (she's stil in 000 clothes) or are these just crap? what ones should i be using? and also, i cant buy online so would have to be a shop.

I've been watching this thread, it's very interesting how easy you all say it is. Im very excited and anxious to start cloth.. just got to wait for the baby to come out.
But how do you manage cloth with holidays? That seems impossible to me as there'd be no washing machine with camping (we do that alot) and no little sqirt if you go anywhere else?
Stevie: sounds like you need a better covering system. The cheapest (and what hospitals often use) are just flat pieces of plastic that you tie at the sides... oooh what are they called? Mind blank... Snibs??? you can buy them at the chemist usually. I found a Big Fluffies cover (several sizes larger than the child) was ok... they kinda got better as they got older (more use) from memory... i inherited a stack of second hand ones and they were great over the flats. You can pay more for covers but I made do. A snib AND a Big Fluffy at night was virtually garanteed leak proof... but it's the old fashioned way of doing it... i'm sure the girls here could tell you about more sophisticated covers.
Poopie: we holidayed with cloth. It was do-able if you had your own private bathroom and lots of sun. Once we were on the road and laid out all the clean but damp nappies over the luggage in the back of the car and they were dry by the time we got to our final destination... we had a stationwagon though.
Poopie I guess that would depend on how long you were going away for and how many nappie you had! I've been camping for 3 days and I took every nappy I owned. I put the used ones in a big bag (one of the big ones you get from myer) and washed them when I got home. I was staying in a place where all rubbish had to be taken out with us so I would have been taking out a bag full of used sposies so it made no difference
Big Fluffies are all over the place, Target etc....cheap and basic. If I was planning of having more babies I would invest in a better quality cover to be honest. If you want to try a BF then buy the biggest size you think will fit her. The leg holes are small.
and to get a better quality cover i would have to buy online?
could you suggest any covers that you would recomend? that you maybe dont need to buy online?

Stevie I use the Big W covers, they aren't the Dymples ones though I can't remember the brand. but they do up with velcro and have the soft outer with lined plastic in the middle. I do have to use one 1 or 2 sizes bigger than her pants, so now she is wearing size 2 covers (don't know where I'm going to go from here as they only go to size 2!). I havent had any problems with leakage etc using them, maybe you just need a bigger size?
Quite frankly its not up to your IL's as to what your baby is in. Cloth are no more stinky than sposies. I have 36 bumgenius nappies and wash every 2-3 days depending as they dry so quickly. I also have a wet bag that comes with me to put dirty nappies in and never had a drama.
We have shown both nans how to use them and both wished they had similar in their days lol . before bub came i was poo hoo'd by the "fancy" choice and told i wouldn't last a week yes its a bit of extra effort but i am never short on a nappy and i love the colours.
I found cloth just as easy as disposables and I loved hanging them out on the line on a sunny day and them bringing them in and stuffing the pockets at night when DS was in bed. Their chunky cloth bums look so darn cute too.

yes its a bit of extra effort but i am never short on a nappy and i love the colours.
