So if the HH nappies were full price you would still have to purchase the insert seperate anyway?
When I've bought them in the past they've been about $22-25 (can't quite remember?) and yep, I've bought boosters separately.
BUT here's a tip if you'd like to save $$ - I often buy microfibre towels from K-mart (or bigW) to boost my pockets. They come in packs of 6 and cost around $10. I use two towels per nappy, folded into thirds. Of course they don't hold as much as bamboo but are so inexpensive and quick-drying (like the nappies). Obviously being microfibre they should be used for pockets only, not against baby's skin. HTH!

I emailed the lady on the website and you are right they don't come with inserts but she said you can use any inserts in them.

Thanks for that tip Amy - will look into that.

Different stores have different policies so you always need to check. Usually a one size pocket will come with it's inserts included but don't assume esp if they are super cheap. Green kids don't come with inserts and I think the weewuns and baby blossom you have to buy the insert seperately. At the nappy bucket we used to do all our pocket nappies with inserts included and I'm pretty sure the new owners have kept to the policy Usually they will have a thing in the description and then a drop down box that will either say add an insert (ie not included) or add an extra insert. (insert included) Sometimes you might get to choose the insert that is included so there might be a free one (ie microfibre insert) or you can upgrade (upgrade to hemp +$5.00) etc. Does that make any sense?

As for where to buy inserts from Snacksgave you a good idea, also try ebay or wahmnaps as their postage rates are generally cheaper than the big stores. If you wanted to get it fro a big store I would wait until I was ordering more nppies to get the value for money for your postage.

Happy Heiny's do have their own brand of insert but anything will fit, they are a wide crotch nappy so I would recommend either a bumgenius one size microfibre, $7-8 or a size happy heiny insert (to match the size of your nappy) A happy Heiny stuffin is their hemp insert or they have microfibre. a blueberry or jamtots hemp one size will fit and A bamboo foldup would fit quiet nicely too but steer clear of swaddlebee sized inserts are too narrow

Thanks Sarah - yea it made sense, even to a novice like me

I thought you were the owner of the nappy bucket as it is in your siggy. Will have to have a look there too.

I have only just started this (my son wore his first cloth this morning ) so i am not too up on inserts and what different ones are like but i will look into it. I have bamboo in the 3 i have - i like that but i gather that can be expensive?

I have just got my head around all the different types of nappies - i.e pocket, aio etc so now i have to look at the different types of inserts lol. It is very addictive already - my house is a real pig sty just now as i am spending too much time looking at all the different nappies lol oops

I completely understand the addiction :-)

Let me know if you have any qu regarding inserts, I'm happy to answer.

No - no longer the owner of Nappy Bucket but have already paid for the sig so thought I might as well keep it there for the new owner until it is finished ... or I find something else to occupy myself with

    Thanks Sarah,

Is it alot of work doing an online shop like that? I would love to do something like that to bring in extra money whilst it still let me be home with the kids.

Can you use terry flats as inserts in pocket nappies or does that not really work?
Do you know anywhere i can get bamboo in bulk or a bit cheaper?
I am going to need some extra of that for the peapods i have.

I used half a terry when Natty was in little ones. Terry is very bulky and not very absorbent, so it's limited in that way.
Check out the cloth nappy making threads - someone in there may be able to give you a tip as to where to get bamboo online. (I don't think it's cheap anywhere particularly.)
I ordered 3 large ones for Natty! We got a cow hide, pink cammo and red rose. Thanks so much for the tip!!!

Snacks - in regards to the microfibre towels you referred to earlier, are they in the baby department? what brand are they?

10.95 for half a metre of bamboo - does that sound expensive?

Good question Kellie - i was going to ask that too

Nope, they're in the car section
I think the brand I've got is Kenko or something like that. They come in a roll and they're red, blue and yellow.
I've not bought bamboo before... But I suppose if you think that a bamboo trifold booster from BBH costs around um... $15? (Guessing - I can't remember how much it cost. Pretty sure it was more than $10) Gee, it does sound worth it! All you'd have to do is hem the edges.

Glad we asked which dept they are in otherwise i would never have found them.

Well i have no chance of heming them - i don't have a sewing machine and i wouldn't be able to use one if i did (i have thought about getting one seriously in the last couple of months). Oh well back to the drawing board i guess.

Mummyof2under2 - owning my own business was wonderful and I love cloth nappies and everything else that went with them but in the end it was too much for me to handle and give everything, family and shop my best. I really applaud the WAHM who do make it work but hubby wasn't really on board as far as helping out with the business and at home and DS has just been organised with autism and in the end it was family over business - so easy to choose in the end. A lot of the maj stores have demonstrators which I think would be a great way to make a little money, get some cheap nappies and have heaps of fun selling MCN! Like tupperware but SOOOOOO much better.

As for the bamboo fleece, is there anyone nearby who you could have a little sewing party with and borrow their machine in return for giving them some fabric???? Not sure how bamboo fleece would go without being overlocked. Check out the making nappy thread?

Sarah- sorry you had to give up doing something you love but like you said the choice was easy when it came to your family. I hope you manage to get all the help your son needs too.

Does anyone know how many inserts i would get from half a metre? I am sure i could pay someone to hem them if i did buy it.

depends on how wide your fabric is and what kind of inserts you want to make? Do you want a bamboo trifold? How many layers do you want? Oh also i think bamboo shrinks when you first wash it, but the ladies in the cloth nappy making thread will be able to help you out!

Oh no Kellie - i don't know about that.

I emailed the lady a few times yesterday and she said they are in Sydney and the postcode she gave was the city. We are only about an hours drive from the city but she did really well to get it in the post last night. I hope you get yours soon.

DD has got the cow print one on over her disposable until i get some more inserts hehe.

I got a little plastic purse in mine too(she must have chucked it in as a freebie because i didn't order one) with peter rabbit on it so dd has claimed it for her coins
