How do u keep your nappy bucket from not stinking?

I use a wetbag in my bucket and on the inside of the lid I put in citrus circles which I bought from ozbabytrends (.com.au) I replace the circles probably weekly and also use them in my rubbish bin too! Oh and I only put the lid on overnight (because the dog resides in our bathroom overnight lol)

I always wash the nappies in the evening once DS has his night sposie on. That way I can air it outside for the entire night.
Seems to do the trick. Sometimes I'll spray something in there like sugar soap & wash it out first if it's particularly stinky.

I just don't breathe in when I put a nappy in there. LOL!
I usually wash every 2nd day too, and once the nappies are in the machine I wipe out the bucket with eucalyptus and/or vinegar.
No biggie!

I put my bucket up on the bench and we have never used a lid. Doesn't really smell at all and it stops the ammonia eating into the bamboo and elastic.

buy a $17 willow kitchen bin with the flap top lid. it allows air flow, is square so fits into smaller places better and holds about 15 nappies.

I also have mine high like Kim....up on the bench in the landry

That's such a great idea, never thought of using anything like that. Does the air flow actually make a difference to the smell then?

sure as hell does...doesnt burn my nose for starters ROFL....and I dont have to pysically touch the bin at all until I empty it into the washign machine and rinse it out

I bought one of these two weeks ago, and it rocks! No smelling and easier than the bucket with lid hald ajar, just have to get DH to put them in there now instead fo leaving them on the bench in the laundry

same we wash every day and the lid is not air tight we spray disenfectant in it and rinse every day the items go in wash.

I tried pretty much everything - rotating between 3 buckets outside and inside, bicarbonate in the bottom, eucalyptus/ tea tree oil, rinsing every ( and I mean every) nappy, bleaching the buckets before going outside.

What sort of worked for me - lid ajar except overnight ( can't stand smell in DS's room if I don't shut it then & used the smelly citrus circles ( as mentioned in a previous post) and washing at least every other day. Am thinking about trying the planetwise nappy bag idea - just have to pay off the c/c after going on a nappy buying spree
