Little help needed from clothy mamas

Hi at the moment DS is a disposies bubba but the more I think about it Im not too keen in throwing money away like that when there is a better alternative (financially, environmentally etc). Im interested in the AIOs like the peapods but havent heard anything about them! I need a bit of an idea as in what I should be looking at and how I can do so without spending an arm and a leg. Any advice would be great.
    Thanks

For newbies i always recomend Bumgenius..

these are one size fits all and AIO.. around $28 each. (kimbaz sells them at her store beyond belly)

Peapods have mixed reviews, i have personally not tried them but some love them some hate them.

Another Great brand is Itti bittis dlish, very popular and spunk too

And of course Cushies Tushies are great IMO the snap coutures are OSFM and some great patterns avaliable

    Hi

There are some cloth nappies that you can buy from e-bay that a friend of mine LOVES. They do need a cover, and she is using a booster overnight, but they are affordable and easy to use. During the day, no boosters required and they haven't had leaks. They have velcro tabs.

If you search for cloth nappies, these nappies usually have all capital titles e.g. "12 NEW FITTED CLOTH BABY NAPPIES COTTON-NEWBORN SIZE" and the seller is from Yea, Victoria. Prices usually start $49.99 + $10 postage for 12 nappies.

They are a good way to decide if cloth nappies is the way you want to go. And then you can add some funky colours from the other companies if you like.

    cheers,

    kate

I get all my cloth nappies from the US. I'm an American and still haven't gotten used to a lot of the high prices here. There is a lot more variety available there and so many online diaper shops to choose from. If this appeals to you at all, you can get some great reviews from diaperpin dot com. My personal preference is a hemp fitted nappy (I just ordered some from Crikett's Diapers as the ones I used to use are now discontinued) with a PUL cover (favourite brand is Thirsties). I also really love using cloth wipes.

If you want to ask me any specific questions, I have used Chinese prefolds, hemp prefolds, Fuzzi Bunz, Hugga Buns, and hemp fitted. For covers, I have used only PUL--Thirsties, Bummis, and Proraps.

I recommend getting a few styles ie. thin crotch, wide crotch, bamboo, hemp, microfibre, and finding what suits bub the most. Some babies suit some styles better than others. My kids suit wide crotch, but there are some bubs on here that only suit narrow crotch. There is a second hand nappy auction site, called buyforbaby dot com dot au, which has lots of really good preloved nappies, and you can do a hot wash (60 degrees) before using just to be sure they are clean enough.

I have personally found my BumG the worst quality of all my nappies. They elastic is shot after 12 months of use, where as other nappies in the same rotation have lasted much better. For an equivalent but slightly more expensive pocket, i have found blueberry much better quality. JMO though!

Rhyb- Where do you live? The melb baby and kids expo is coming up and they wil have loads of nappies there to check out IRL. As well as that a few of us cloth mummas are going so we could show you our stash if you live in Melb! Otherwise i would recommend trying a couple of different ones to decide what works best for you. Some people swear by fitteds and covers, where as i prefer a pocket or AIO. I love itti's but my friend finds then too short on her bub and they end up with a plummers crack. So what works for one may not work for another. Trial and error unfortunately. For this reason i would steer clear of all bulk backs until you know what you want.

I think you cant recommend certain nappies, covers ect when there are so many to pick from and EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT!

You cant recommend a particular nappy that works for you when the person needs to experience a few different types of nappys, pockets AIO's covers and it sometimes help's to shop around at different stores and sites.

Alot of poeple start with baby beehinds and find they work but then find that after a while...once they get their feet that they will adventure out into the big wild world of MCN.

If your not to scared of second hand nappys...try buy for baby (with the bits on the end) that way your not paying brand new prices but experiencing all the different types available at an affordable price bracket.

If your in Melbourne your more then welcome to come to the nappy meet up in Langwarrin so we can confuse you
