looks like i might have to stock up on moogoo pre-gremlin!

a quick question - in another thread, there was a lot of mention of gaia products being natural and good for bub as far as bathing and stuff - i noticed on their website that they also have a soothing lotion - is this one good or bad with MCN's? i'm asking early as my mum has hinted that she'd like to do a basket of all lotions and stuff, but she knows my skin is sensitive and that i fear bub may be the same, so she keeps asking which products i want to use...

BG - depends whats in it? I'd say it would be sorta not too bad... usually the moisturing type creams you can use - the ones that dissolve into the skin - its the barrier creams that cause a problem.

Although, I have other moisturing creams here - and they sorta stick to the nappy too and make it a bit slimy. I don't think it has effected how absorbent it is though.

But moogoo is brilliant stuff - my friend used it last night on her partner (they were staying here) cos he got horribly sunburnt the other day. He said that it felt great straight away...

I'd be wary of anything that uses shea butter BG. It might be OK, being a vegetable fat. Generally it's going to depend on the concentration of fat/oil to water, with something like Gaia it's likely to be a low concentration, it's a fairly light lotion I believe.

You could always try smearing it on a piece of cloth, leaving it for a few hours to settle, then washing it. Do that a few times (to see if you get a build up), and then pour some water onto the cloth to see if the water is easily absorbed, or if it rolls off. If it rolls off, you've got yourself a barrier.

thanks for that suse! i think i'll grab one of their sample packs cos their all small bottles so no big outlay - will give it a test - if it repels water, i'll not use it - but the other stuff for bathing has come highly recommended, so it should all get used up (even if i have to force myself to use the soothing cream on my legs after shaving!)

I've used the baby wash before (on myself too), but also like the natural instinct stuff - it's cheaper than the Gaia products but uses similar ingredients (all natural, no parabens, no sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate).

But mostly I still just use water, it interrupts the natural oil balance much less.

Just to let you know BG, I used a pure Calendula gel on DS1, for nappy rash and eczema. It was pricey!!

It was great, but the Moogoo is working just as well on his sensitive skin.

I would worry about the essential oils in the Gaia products, they gave my son a flare up, instead of helping.....
