I'm looking into some night nappies (we're in disposables at night at the moment as she is weeing like an elephant and is generally sleeping through).
Do you prefer velcro or snaps? I guess I'm wondering with snaps its pretty flexible but i can see her being between snaps, if thats possible (i'm just looking at a pic, and can see me one night trying to decide if i should make it a bit too big or a bit too small...). But then my fitteds are velcro and I know I'm going to have to use a snappi eventually as it all snags in the wash no matter what i do. Its not really an issue because they're terry so using a snappi wont ruin it... i feel like it would be wrong to use a snappi on fancy nappies (i.e. nappies that cost over $15 each!).
Anyway thats dilema one.
Number two... AIO or AI2? I like the idea of an AIO, just put it on and away we go. Would an AIO leak overnight? I've never used one so I'm not sure... would an AI2 be better for night? Using a separate cover seems better maybe to stop leaks...
For DD:
We use baby beehinds bamboo nappy (snaps) with either her longies or a soaker over the top of it. Doesn't leak through because of the woollen cover but the nappy is VERY wet by the time she wakes up. (She sleeps through - bout 12/13 hours in her nappy)
BUT for DS - he is a HUGE wetter (like your elephant wee-er) especially his big morning flood he does as soon as he wakes up.
So the Baby Beehinds only JUST do it for him, and thats with another booster on the outside of the nappy.
So I've got definite night nappies for him - Good night sleep tight and Snoozywuns. I also use Green Kids Minky times for him too - because its a pocket I can stuff it as much as I need to - plus his sister will be able to use them too cos its OSFA. The GNST and Snoozywuns are AI2's - which is better because they DRY quicker - I wouldn't use an AIO for nights for a couple of reasons, 1, take longer to dry so you have to buy more of them and 2, harder to boost if she goes through a really wet stage.
DD is going ok with the BB's at the moment - but if she starts outwetting them, she will go into the snoozywuns (velcro) cos the mediums start at 7kg. (7kg to 15kg so you get a LOT of use out of them)
At this age I would say your velcro is possibly going to give you a nicer fit. But I haven't done a wee on in cloth yet. BUT Snaps are better because they are hard to undo when they start playing withthe tabs of the nappy.
I personally wouldn't use a AIO or AI2 for a night nappy. I think you would be much safer with a fitted & cover.
Im not a fan of BBH's but they seem to work for a lot of people.
I have Wildchilds as my night nappys & some fitteds that I make myself for when bubby is very small.
for night nappies i use wildchild which are fitteds and use snaps, i use shorties over them.
i also have a catnap fitted with is velcro, both great nappies!!
I would use a fitted and cover combo over an AIO if she is sleeping longer. Wildchild or BBH with an extra booster have worked well for C. I have a catnaps honeyboy but only just started using it as it is a large. Am happy with it so far but Cat has retired so you may not get one of them
Never given a thought about night nappies being velcro or snaps but I do prefer snaps in general as they don't snag in the wash and they keep nicer with age. Aslo when they get bigger they can't take them off as easy like FJ said
I am following this thread with interest because I have been using disposables at night too. Just thought I would add that for us there is not much diffence in velcro or snaps - I started with cloth when DS was 11 months and he took about 2 seconds to get the velcro nappy off and about 2.5 seconds for the snaps. He always wears a bodysuit to prevent nappy tampering.
My DD is nearly 5 months old. We use Baby Beehinds Bamboo, these are one size and snap, the snap she is on is slightly to big but we use the Baby Beehinds Wool Cover which is a platic velcro (the plastic velcro snags on the wool cover but not anything else, therefore does not ruin her nice nappies when I machine wash them together), this allows me to make it a bit tighter to make up for the in between snaps. DD sleeps 12-14 hours at night and the nappy is always soaked but it has NEVER wet through the wool cover. I only use the boosters that came with the nappy and they do me fine but there is plenty off room for extra boosting.
