    OMG how wet was that?

Well I have just changed our first flanny flat on my 2 week old. (Have used Huggies up until now). I used an eenee snib over top and was pleased to find we had had no leaks, but was suprised at how wet the flanny underneath was! It was absolutely drenched, not one part was dry! Sophie didn't seem to be bothered by it but I was wondering whether I had maybe left her too long before checking. I think it had been about three hours. Or is this just "welcome to the world of cloth"?

As for the snib, it is pretty wet on the inside right now. I just rinse it out right?

    Thanks for any advice.

Yeah, cloth is not going to last as long as sposies. 3 hours is a pretty long time for a nb in cloth.

I agree on 3 hours being too long. Unless they are having a nap of course 2 hours max for a flanny flat!

Ways to help with the sopping wet nappy are to use a booster with it, either bamboo, hemp or microfibre. You can also use a liner made from microfleece as it isn't an absorbant fabric but will let the wee through.

Moolie, flannel flats are about the least absorbent you can get, so you'll want to change them more often. I used to have small happy heiny pockets that were brilliant for natty when she was new - and stuffed with microfibre, they are quite compact and should last a bit longer.
Hi Kate, my 17mo's nappy changes depend on what nappy she's wearing. I find my fitteds and covers last longer and we use them when we go out.
If she poos, obviously I change her straight away, but apart from that, she'll probably wear 6 nappies in a day?

Oh dear, I feel like a bad mother now! Thanks for the replies. Yes, she was having a nap. I'm totally new to the world of cloth and was intending on starting out with the flanny flats during the day and sticking to sposies at night progressing to fulltime cloth down the track when I can get some MCN's for night. I was interested in the flats from a drying point of view, her being a Melbourne winter baby.

Does anyone have any recommendations for flanny folds. I was using this one [URL="http://www.vk6ksj.net/klgallery/No-pins-noSnappi-newborn-flannel-nappy-fold"] She is pretty tiny, 3.2kg at the moment.

I know nothing about boosters. Any recommendations for where I could get some of those?

    Thanks, Lisa

Hey Lisa, so sorry! Didn't mean to make you feel bad! We need to try things before we know what works The only boosters I've ever bought are from Baby Beehinds and Bubblebubs (online). They sell them in either squares (trifolds - where you fold them into three, funnily enough!) or strips, kind of like oversized sanitary pads. I mentioned the microfibre, which works well as a stuffer (and is very cheap and easily accessible) but unfortunately it can't go against bub's skin because it will dry it out. However, if you are looking for a cheaper option, you can get them and fold them inside the nappy perhaps? Not sure, as we only used flannel for a very short time, so I've no idea about folding flats... GL with it, and keep plugging on!

That's OK Snacks, I'm terribly efficient at making myself feel guilty, welcome to Motherhood eh? I have just had an "aha" moment whilst muddling through online instructions for the Bat fold nappy. Now I can't wait for madam to wake up so I can try it out on her. How life has changed when you realise you are excited about nappy change time! Now, if I can only get her to stop pooing everywhere each time I take it off. Lordy! I even found some on the wall the other day. (Still need to clean that off!) Thanks for the advice about the boosters, will order some online.

    Ta everyone, Lisa.
