    PUL...Wool...Fleece??

    Hi all

i'm after some advice/info on the nappy covers out there for fitted nappies. I'm aware of all the different types but cant really get my head around why they are made of different materials? So i have a few questions..

Do i need to get matching nappy and cover- same brand?
Are the PUL covers like the old plastic pants our Mums used on us? Do they make bub feel sweaty?
How does fleece and wool contain the wetness? Do these covers require any extra maintenance? I've heard about the lanolin wash or something?
What is the best for fitted nappies?
Are covers fiddly - should i change my mind from fitteds to an AIO?

Pretty much just after some feedback about the covers you use and what you think of them? In case you havn't noticed i'm a newbie to cloth !! I apologise for the over load of probably *silly* questions....

    Thanks in advance....

    Hi Bugalug

Do i need to get matching nappy and cover- same brand? No not always but I have found that some are narrower in the crotch. Very Baby and Swaddlebees covers don't fit too well over BBH.

Are the PUL covers like the old plastic pants our Mums used on us? Do they make bub feel sweaty? They are a more breathable type of barrier that the PVC. This means that they will become wet and leak eventually. If this occurs then you need to change more often or boost.

How does fleece and wool contain the wetness? Do these covers require any extra maintenance? I've heard about the lanolin wash or something? The fibres are dense and act as a barrier. Wool and fleece will allow the dampness to evaporate more than PUL. Like PUL they will leak eventually. When you lanolise wool it helps make it even more water resistant and the lanolin and urine have a chemical reaction which converts to water and salt. You need to handwash wool which can be extra work. Fleece are great as you can just chuck them in with the regular wash.

What is the best for fitted nappies? Depends on how long you want them on for, and what suits your baby better. I prefer wool and fleece because I find the leg elastic a bit too harsh with the PUL covers. They leave welts on C's legs. I'll use PUL for car trips though as I find wool leaks more.

Are covers fiddly - should i change my mind from fitteds to an AIO? No not really. The best bit about covers and fitteds is that you have a bit more protection from poo leaks. Many times (back when C was teeny) I would go to change and find it had leaked out the leg or up the back but was contained by the cover. I would reccomend to get a few of each to see what you think. Post is really quick and you can always order more of the ones that you prefer.

    HTH!
