DH and I are also completely going the cloth nappy way. Better for our bank account, better for the environment, and from the sounds of things, probably better for Sprog, too!

Websites seem to differ a lot however in saying how many nappies to buy ... some say 10-15, some say 60!

Same with liners. I like the idea of getting a meter of polar fleece and a meter of flannelette and making my own reusable liners (and having disposables for when out) but as for nappies ... is 40 enough?

I'm thinking if newborns use 10-15 nappies per day initially, then 30 should be enough, but then (given Sprog is due late May, and Melbourne can be pretty wet!) I shouldn't assume they will dry straight away ...

How many square nappies do you ladies use?

I also love the different "modern cloth nappies" that seem to be out everywhere at the moment! They're so gorgeous, and maybe using them will also start conversations, which might help me encourage some friends to try out cloth nappies ...

But I'm wondering though, given May will be pretty cold etc no one is likely to see them, as they will be under several layers of clothes! And they're pretty pricey ...

While I'd love to buy 3 or 4 of the modern cloth nappies (probably the two-in-ones, as they can be one size fits all) I'm wondering whether I should hold off until summer, when the super cute ones can be used as an outer garment ...

Do any of you use them?
