Sizing:
Is it ok to upsize if bub is close to the next sized nappy?? James was nearly 5kgs at his 2mth check and is a boof man, the small magicalls is too small and Im looking at a HH but the med is 6.4kgs up I think James would be roughly 6.1kgs now.
Measuring rise:
When the sites give you the rise - is that something I can measure on him to check the size? and if so how do I do that?
As usual I'm sure I will have a bunch of other questions to come.
ETA: Ok here's another one. I use Aromababy barrier balm, can I use it on MCN?

Can't really help much Tan but pretty much everything I've read about sized nappies says that you shouldn't upsize. Never done it myself (I've got 95% greenkids) but "they" say it can cause leaking etc. Having said that, by the time you decide which colour you want (ha ha) James will probably have gained the extra weight required. He's really close and I think it would be crazy to think that for the sake of 200grams or so it wouldn't fit.
I have a HH medium if you want a freebie before handing over cash (its a red one). It is one of the ones that sits down the very, very bottom of my nappy stash and given that Iz is now out of MCNs I never get through the GKs I've got. So, if you want to PM your address I'll pop it in the post and you can give it a whirl.
You're a gem Lulu! Will pm you now. I might get the med and just keep it as back up for when he gets a bit bigger. The GK inserts are still all sold out everywhere and Im dying to give it a go too - might just have to try it with the BG insert I have.
I do tend to upsize with nappies, just because I feel like if I get the 'smaller' size they seem to grow out of it so quickly.
The thing to remember though is that you can only upsize to a certain point, and you'll probably find that some nappies you can upsize and with others you can't so much. If you do go for the larger size you just need to make sure that you can still do it up firmly up around their legs and waist (as that's where you might get leaks).
I find that with a lot of styles we have tried, although they state the weight range there is a bit of flexibilty outside of that.
Bugger about the GKs inserts. I had to wait a while for my last lot too. I use the GKs in the HH as well as the inserts that I got with the BG and the Hautes. All of them fit well but I found the GKs bamboo by far the best.
Argh everyone loves the GK inserts! Ok well I will just have to wait til mid Jan when they are restocking and then stock up on them!
Lee - thanks lovely, it's so hard to know what to do with sizing, hence why I like the one sized ones Decision made for me!! If it's a few hundred grams I might just go bigger because he iwll eventually grow into them... he is a bit of a boof though and I worry about how tight to do them, stupid isn't it you'd think it would be similar to the sposies.
