What cream to use with cloth nappies?

Thanks lovely ladies. Will check out the pawpaw cream - I've got one I use for my lips but its a bit gooey so maybe its got petroleum in it?? Will have to check.

With the Aromababy products do you use the barrier cream or the nappy change cream? The whole range of products looks beautiful. Sigh. Internet shopping gets me into a LOT of trouble with my DH!!

I use Palmers Bottom Butter. You can normally get it at priceline and it is cheap as and lasts ages.

I have a related question - if I use flushable liners do I need to worry about which cream to use or would the nappy be protected from a barrier cream by the liner?

I found that there was still cream that got onto the nappy, but maybe that was the particular liners I was using?

Another liner question (thanks Ladylove!!) - is it worth using them if you can't use the flushable ones (we're on septics so can't flush)? We've moved since the girls were in nappies so haven't had this issue in the past.

Lulu i used the eenie biodegradable liners on septic and never had a problem. they are exxy though.
I too will check out some of these creams as the moogoo msm cream has never worked for DD, in fact appart from bepanthen i have yet to find a nappy cream that works on DD, must be just her i think, but it has caused problems with using cloth.

i think they basically fall into two camps.

1. the petroleum based creams.
They are often white, and don't blend into the skin. They are "barrier creams", very greasy.
Using these, you need to put liners into your MCNs, otherwise the fabrics the mcn's are made from, will stop working, the way they are intended to work. e.g absorbent material will stop being absorbent.


2. the water based creams.
They are often a non colour, and when you rub them into the baby's skin, they blend in. They are not barrier creams and not greasy.
Using these, you don't need to use liners, as they will not stop the fabrics working the way they are intended.

LuluHB, i just noticed you asked about the pawpaw cream.

when my child was in MCN, i researched paw paw creams and discovered the Lucas brand (red tub, red tube) DID have a petroleum base, but i found other paw paw salves and ointments (e.g Simmons, in the yellow tub or tube), that used a water base instead.
