My DS is 8 months old and has been grinding his teeth for a while now. I checked with the CHN who said this is normal but I have noticed that he has chipped his front teeth in two places. They are only small chips but I am worried about it becoming a habit. DS has 7 teeth with more visible below the gum. I try to distract him and was giving him his dummy more often but I have since gotten rid of his dummies as he was getting really dependent on them. Any suggestions?
Sorry no suggestions, but just wanted to say my DD started grinding her teeth at about 8 months, she is now 14 months and does it on and off. I figure there is not alot i can do about it, so i don't make a big deal of it and hope she stops. And like you say, try and distract her with something else.
I have asked a few people about it and it seems pretty common.
You could always ask your dentist what their thoughts were....
sorry no advice here on how to stop it but my DD also grinded her teeth at 8 months old, lasted a month or so. is 11 months now and doesn't do it anymore
Macca, Sam's doing the exact same thing.I actually came in here to start a thread on it.Must be something to do with teething and age.I can't stand the sound though!
Ds has 8 teeth and I am sure some back teeth are coming through the way he is dribbling and fingers back down the side. OR it could be he has learnt that his teeth hurt when they bite so keep his own fingers away! He has no problem with my fingers, leg or even another childs leg. He didn't mean to, but I still felt bad. WHoops.
Re the grinding I am not sure if he is learning where to position his teeth and adjusting to them being there and the pressure required?
Hopefully it will soon pass.
Macca I can so relate to DS ebing dependent on the dummy. I try to only let him have the dummy when he is going to bed or very whingy and I can't figure out the cause. He would happily have it all day though and dummy is his most favourite thing in the world. You cannot have it on him with a dummy chain or have it somewhere within his reach as he will grab it and put it in before you can blink
Bubs just started this today!!! Sounds horrible! He has a top tooth just about to cut...but I think his other top teeth are now longer enough to reach his bottom two...
my little one is doing it aswell.
she seems to do it for about 3 weeks when she is getting new teeth once they are up she stops.
though she seems to get all of teh one kind at teh same time her 2 top eye teeth are coming through togetehr this month
