    amber necklace

    Hi,
My DD has an amber necklace, I have had a few comments from people in regards to safety (?choking?) I know the supplier recommended removing them for sleeping but otherwise do you think they are safe? Also, for those with any experiences, did you find they helped with teething?

I've never got around to getting one, but I've heard great things about them. I've also heard that pharmacies in some European countries stock them, and they're a recognised teething pain relief there.

The ones I've seen have had each bead individually strung (ie, a knot between each one), so if the necklace broke, they'd only get one bead...I don't know, the beads don't seem big enough to be a choking problem to me...

As Nelle said the necklaces that are especially made for babies are knotted between each bead and have safety clasp that will come undone when force is applied to the necklace, which will help stop it from breaking.

I would DEFINANTLY remove it when baby is in bed or when unsupervised (playing in cot alone etc..), babies should never be left unsupervised or asleep with anything around their neck.

Please let us know how it goes, I am interested in getting one for my DS.

    hi,

We have been using a amber neckalce since DS was about 3 months! I really belive they work! If we forget to put it on he is a totally different baby! We had a few nights of pain with teeth, but he doesnt wear it to bed so I think this is why!

Will definately be getting them for furture children! Plus they look so cute!

    Good luck!

a few of the online nappy shops sell them. I got mine from darlings downunder, but have seen them on other ones.

I've had one on Pip for a few months now, and I'm a bad mother, I leave it on 24/7. As discussed, it is knotted between each bead. We haven't had any bad teething times this set of teeth - the canines have all been coming out and moving around (the first of them broke through today!)

Im looking to get one of these too.
I saw a lady at DSS school carrying her baby - maybe 8mths old who was wearing one.
I approached her and asked how she found it and she said that her baby has not had any problems with teething pain at all.

I figure if i get one now, before the first erruptions (as she is showing all the signs of teething and has been for a few months now) hopefully we wont have any bad nights.

As for wearing them to bed, i though that they had to wear then 24/7... but i guess the strangulation thing is a factor??

there is a site called amberbabes that has info on them and they are $40 and come with a bag for when the teeth fall out...

    Hi
Amber necklaces are available on ebay from $32.00 plus $4.00 postage from New Zealand
eBay Seller: babynecklace: Gifts, Baby items on eBay Australia

Or do a search for amber teething necklaces, you can get them from Lithuania for 8.00 plus $7.00 postage. Don't know what the quality is like though.
The ones from NZ look like the genuine article.

    Another supplier from NZ
Amber Teething Necklaces - Natural mattresses by INNATURE New Zealand
The exchange rate makes these a good buy for us in Australia.

    Regards

Just thought that i would add that only Baltic Amber is affective...
The cheaper ones may be amber, but if they do not have the succinic acid it will not work...

Natural pain relief provided by Amber works by placing the necklace on your body, this allows your skin to warm the amber beads, releasing healing oils which are then absorbed into the blood stream. Only Baltic amber contains succinic acid, please beware of other sellers stating they sell "Baltic amber" yet the amber may be mined in China, Africa, Australia, India or Tibet this is Copal and does not contact the active ingredient - Succinic Acid.
TBH i would rather pay more and know that i am getting the real deal, than spend less and not have it work...

ETA - the NZ ones look like they are the proper ones, as they state where they come from, i think i will get one from them as they are better value with the exchange rate...
    Thanks Lisa for the link
