Colic and Chiropractor

Has anyone else taken their bub to the chiropractor for colic?
We took Sophia last week because her crying was escalating and we had a few good recommendations. We are lucky enough to have a childrens chiropractic specialist here and they were very thorough and very gentle with her.
I was actually quite impressed, although I was frazzled at the time of her appointment and probably looked like a complete idiot.
I was told she might get worse before she improved, and that night was like hell. She has improved quite a bit now though, and we have a much happier bub. I also cut out dairy from my diet and I think that has also been a good thing for her.
I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has taken bub to the chiropractor for colic or any other reason, and what their experience was.

I took Matilda 6 times to a chiropractor for colic & reflux. We decided to give it a few weeks after our first 2 times were awful. Matilda screamed for hours afterwards, didn't settle, vomitted heaps more... it was truely traumatic. But we decided to give it a fair go and went weekly for 5 weeks (the first week we went twice). We didn't see much change, sometimes she would sleep afterwards, after crying for 2-3 hours and sometimes she would just remain unsettled afterwards.

I have heard amazing reports of it working wonders in friends children & that was why we decided to have a go and see. Unfortunately for us it didn't make much of a change. A few weeks after finishing, Matilda's colic settled, but her reflux remained until she was over 6 months.

we are seeing an Osteopath at the moment (similar to chiro) for colic/reflux
First time he was very un happy afterwards and did lots of spews for 2 days.
Just had his 2nd adjustment tonight and so far he has been ok.
i was told too that it can take 6-7 times for it to really be any benefit and that it gets worse b4 getting better... Lets hope it starts working so we dont go through all of this for nothing!

I take Ivy for reflux.
While it hasn't really eased her vomiting, she is alot more settled after her adjustment. Often I will take her home and she will sleep for hours. We go every two days and by the time we have our next appointment, I see a real difference, she is more unsettled, uncomfortable, etc. I guess it's cyclicle.
I do see a difference but sometimes, I wonder whether I take her more for me than her, so that I feel like I am doing something to ease her discomfort.

We had our follow up appointment today and the chiro said she didn't require any more adjustments, and that everything looked good. We are due to go back in 3 weeks. I don't know if it has really helped her a great deal, but it's difficult to tell when the days all blur into one.
My GP has suggested that she may have reflux and colic, and has suggested infant Gaviscon, so we'll see if that helps things along.
Poor little mite, all I want to do is make her pain go away.

Tiggy, I have noticed the same with Sophia, she sleeps so welll after the Chiro I wish I could take her every day. Although I remember after her first visit she did a huge thick vomit in the night and scared the life out of me, hope that doesn't happen again.

I too was told it would get worse before it got better, and that in the end the only thing that will really truly help is time.

Hi guys,

My little one has bad colic. It was worse when she was a newborn but now she does not scream as much but is highly uncomfortable, especially at night. She seems to have all this wind that wants to come out and it disturbs her sleep (as well as mine). I know she is in pain and desperatly wants to sleep but dont know what to do for her. How long does colic last and will solids help? It seems like this is going on and on forever and I have health problems from all the lack of sleep!!

Sophia is the same, waking up when she has to pass wind and boy does she scream while she's doing it. It's absolutely heartbreaking.
I have been told that the colic should ease off by about 3 to 4 months, and definitely by 6 months. All you can do until then is try your best to comfort her and look after yourself. Accept all the help that you can get, and try to get some time to yourself, even if you just walk around the block or do some shopping for an hour, while someone else looks after bub.
I'm not sure that solids will help as her digestive system may not be able to cope with solid food, but I really don't know. Maybe someone else can answer that question for you.
Know that you are not alone in this and that it will get better

I have been told the same thing about colic. I have survived 3 months of it so another 3 months dont seem so hard. It was harder in the beginning when I took her to my GP as she was only 8 weeks old. At that time it seemed that 6 months is a lifetime away. I am so lucky to have the support from my mum as I would not be able to cope without it. I hope you are lucky to have someone else who can give you a break in between. I have decided to give the gym a go a couple of times a week just to get a break. I feel isolated from people so I need to feel like a person again!!

I hope that it gets better for you and I am here if you need a chat as it is hard for others to understand unless they go through the same thing.

I took Ellie to the chiro...a double apt with me. I've never been either. i was quite impressed with what they did for Ellie...nothing too over the top (including this upside down heel swing thing). But we've stopped going b/c last Monday the lady cracked my neck 3 times and my back twice (not that that was any different to other times) and I have had a permanent headache and neckache since...feel like I'm going to die...been popping IB profen like lollies.

I was thinking of swapping to an osteopath for ellie's reflux...not so sure about chiro anymore...
