Cutting Eye Teeth and Refusing Breast!! Anyone else?

DD is 17 months and appears to be cutting her eye teeth at the moment. Poor child is really in pain. She has managed to cut all her other teeth including molars without much discomfort, but, these eye teeth are a whole different issue.

I have heard that this can happen, that the eye teeth are more painful than other teeth cutting but I am amazed at how bad this is for her. DD is still BF twice a day (which usually increases a bit when she is teething) but at the moment she keeps asking for a BF and then refusing it when I offer. She is getting really distraught, it seems to be painful to put anything including a breast in her mouth .

I guess I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this? I assume that her refusal of the breast is related to teething but have in the back of my mind that it could be something else. She even refused it this morning 1/2 hr after I had given her pain relief...

Have you thought about getting a teething necklace. They do work wonders. Mayb try some teething gel 15 mins before a feed aswell. I use SM33 as i find it works better than bonjela.

Poor little darlin, i hope they come through sooner rather than later.

Having read this I'm wondering if my DD is starting to cut her eye teeth. She's been really out of sorts over the weekend and refusing a bottle at night and screaming in her sleep and thrashing about and really inconsolable. I'm not sure if it's teething or if she's feeling a bit unwell after having the flu shot.

Thanks for the replies. DD is still refusing the breast, it has been over 24 hours now with no boob... and she is still inconsolable in between pain meds, so unlike her. Actually, in writing this I am realising that she hasn't even asked for it except for this morning (which she then refused .

Thanks for the advice Hollye, unfortunately DD is one of those who clamps her mouth shut whenever the teething gel comes out! Can never get any anywhere near her! The teething necklace does sound good. I am willing to give anything a try when she is soooo distraught. Do you know how much they cost.

danniellabella, your DD's symptoms certainly sound like my DD. Hindsight is always good to make these things clearer . FWIW, I can see the tooth buds below the surface of the gum on DD which is why I am sure it is her eye teeth (that and a bit of Google research highlighted the fact that these teeth can be the worst).

Poor little mites...

I do hope she sleeps better tonight though, took me 5 hours to settle her last night . Still I am getting lots of cuggles at the moment .

Ohhhhh!

She just asked for Beebee (breast) sat herself on my lap and assumed the position (lying down with her face at my breast. When I offered it to her she cried and turned away.

Then very cutely she said goodbye to my BB's and tried to pull my bra back up!

I hope this is no the end of the breastfeeding.

have u though about putting the gel on a fav toy and giving it to her. Hopefully she will chew on it and not realise its on there till too late....
