Did mylanta give your baby the runs??? What else can I use???

We found out today that our son has reflux and lactose issues and heart burn because of it.

The paed has put him on zantac and mylanta. He had his first dose of meds at 3pm then again at 6pm. And just before his last feed at 9pm, he did an almost clear yellowy poo. And lots of it. I read on the mylanta bottle that there is two ingredients in mylanta that can cause the runs.

Did mylanta have this effect on your baby? Do you think the mylanta caused his poo to be like this? And last of all, if so, what can I use instead?

    Thanks in advance.

the D&G mixture and dosage is not that high but KWIM i dare say the dosage of mylanta that has been perscribed is more then the amount of gastrogel in the D&G mix KWIM so maybe if given in the corect dose (being the dose thepead talls you ) it may work a bit better

    good luck

Mylanta is notorious for giving the runs, I use a mylanta supreme from America which doesn't cause this problem for us, but you could try gaviscon or gastrogel, both are antacids and both will work in a similar way to the mylanta.

The body may also be adjusting to it, and may just need some time. How much are you giving? and how often.

Also it is best to space the zantac and the antacid for at least an hour, longer if possible as it may interact and make the zantac ineffective.

The medicine that will be helping with the reflux the most in the long run will be the zantac this should be given like a course same times every day, and the mylanta given when needed, this will work more instantly while the zantac may take a little while to get in the system.

    Wow thanks ladies.

I thought only to give him the mylanta at night when needed as this is his worse time. I give him 2.5ml as the paed said. But he doesn't keep alot of that down.

I might try gaviscon as I have read alot of ladies have success with his one.

Caro, do you know if the magic mix is fine to use also with zantac. And he is only bf. Is it gastrogel that is in this mix?

Scarlet, thanks for letting me know about spacing the two apart.

And thanks Mac. Mum also for your help.

We had problems with gaviscon with both girls causing constipation. With the Mylanta, Matilda was only on 1ml twice daily when we used it. We didn't notice any change in her poo at that time. We also used Zantac and we were told to space them apart as well.

im not caro but i can answer yes it is fine to use the mixtue with zantac but NOT with in one hour of each other as it reduces efectiveness

if you arwe useing gastrogel though, dont give a gastrogel as well as it has gastrogelin it
