How soon should zantac work???

hi do u need to get perscriptions for zantax and losec because i my 3month old DS has really bad reflux have him on anti-reflux and it helps a little bit but he stills chucks up a bit and its horrible and would like to get something to help if can...

We were told that Zantac could take a week or 2 to be really effective and manage the reflux. It is not a quick response thing but worth continuing as it made things a lot better for us. Hang in there.

my bub has been on zactac for 2 mths and we saw a little improvment in that time but we seen a ped specialist yesterday who said zactac can give some bubs bad colic pains and its not generally given any more. maybe you should ask to see a specialist (we paid to see a private one so we could see them alot sooner). She uses losec instead.
Also if bub is really upset we were told to give 2ml of mylanta
got to go 4 year old needs some love

You do need to get a script for losec, i am not sure about the zantac, but, i would imagine that you would also need a script for it. Take your DS to the gp, and discuss his situation. Hopefully, she can give you something to help.


MummaB - personally, i would go back to the gp, and request a script for Losec. It has been almost a week from memory now since your DS has been on Zantac, you would be expecting some improvement by now. Not only do you have to do it for your son, but, you gotta do it for you to.

I was told the same as Kellmay. After seeing a GP who prescribed zantac and seeing no difference, after a couple of months I got a referral to a paed who said zantac is generally not used anymore, and zoton is prescribed instead (I am not sure if that is the same as losec??). Anyway, since being on the zoton, the improvement is amazing! I would definitely try to get a different script or get to a paed. We waited ages before giving up and going back to the dr again, and I wish I had done it sooner, the paed was fantastic!

I would say if you want to give it a good go then 1-2 weeks would be the way to go.
When DD was on Zantac I hadn't seen any improvement for about 4 days either and asked my paed if we could swap to losec and he said no, the zantac needed more of a chance (like at least a week sort of thing).
