    Infacol and Gripe water

My little boy is 7 weeks old and I have been giving him Infacol with great results, intially. The effectiveness is wearing off I think, but it is still working to some degree. He is still on 7 bottles p/d, each with a dose of Infacol in them. I was wondering if I can supplement this with occasional doses of Gripe Water. I have read some conflicting opinions on doing this - some say it is fine and others say not. Has anyone here used them concurrently and, if so, have you had much success?

    Thanks

Bella had terrible wind when born and we used Infacol and also Infants freind - we alternated them week by week - the chemist said it was fine to do. Maybe run it past your local chemist??

    Hey Sam

Is he drinking all his milk? Cos if he isn't drinking all his milk, he may not be getting the full dose, therefore it may not be as effective? FWIW, I gave DS infacol straight from the dropper, I didn't mix it in with his milk and it worked fine.

But - all those things only worked up to about 7 weeks with Miss M, and I tried all the remedies out there, but she was diagnosed with silent reflux. So it might be something like that? I'd take him to a homeopath and see what they say - or you can try to take him to a paed chiro to get him checked out. We did with both our kids, cos they can help with reflux and wind and things like that. Especially with c-section babies cos of the way they get pulled out, can sometimes put their little bods out of whack.

    :yeahthat:

I'm taking my chucky little bubs to a chiro and I have really noticed a reduction in her spills and silent reflux. I am not even using infacol anymore which is nice. He is also helping with her tendency to only look one way and her tummy pain. GL

I third (or forth) taking bub to a paediatric chiro! I have taken all my bubs, I took DD for the first time on Tuesday and have seen a reduction in wind problems since then.

I was giving her Infacol too, but like Mel, I just syringed it straight into her mouth before a feed (she's breastfed, but it would be the same for a bottle fed bub too ).

Thanks everyone - I really value all of your advice!

Jakabella, I just called the pharmacy and they said it wasn't a problem to use both because the one is absorbed and the other isn't, but that neither were as effective as a product called Mirena. So we will be off to buy that tomorrow

Mel, he is already seeing a chiro which is definitely helping as we are a long way from where we were at the start.

ryatha, our boy's shoulders got stuck during the c-section and so he had some tension in his neck. He also has a tendency to look one way, but we are seeing a chiro and physio to address that (especially because the one side of his head is strating to get a bit flat)

sneakysparkle, thanks. He doesn't happen to be located to in Grange does he? Because we are seeing a great one there

Hollo - thanks so much (I do remember meeting you!). Yeah I have been so scarce because we have really had a bit of a run of it in terms of feeding issues, milk protein intolerance etc. etc...so Belly Belly has not featured much in my day-to-day existence. Hopefully when he is a bit older I will be a bit active around here!

Trish - congrats on the birth of your little one, Belly Buddie!! As both you and Mel have suggested, I will definitely try doing the infacol before the feed as he doesn't always finish his bottles (probably because mum makes up too much each time!)

    Thanks again, girls

    Hi,
Just wondering if you found this Mirena product and whether it helped?

I did try Mirena, but didn't notice too much of a difference / improvement. What I did end up doing was changing his bottles and teats to the Pigeon brand and that definitely improved his wind situation (initially I was using Medela teats and bottles). I have been using the Peristaltic "S" teats which seem to minimise the amount of wind he swallows while feeding.
