My god that sounds like a nightmare to count the balls!! I wonder how much it really matters? A few balls here and there?
I'm no pharmacist and have only been doing this for a few days myself but we were advised:
* to half the tablets using a sharp knife
* dissolve in 3 ml water (takes about a minute)
* draw up in syringe
* squirt into DS's mouth
HOWEVER: we find putting the halved tablet into the syringe and then adding water works best. You dont miss any of the tiny balls that you do when drawing up the liquid. We have recently been adding milk to the syringe to disguise the taste, we need to fill the syringe 2-3 times to make sure all the meds have gone down. This morning DS was happily taking his medication while smiling and cooing. We noticed the difference in a day or two. Now 5 days later he is a different child. Good luck
My son was on the half a tablet twice a day. I was dissolving in 5mls of water in a syring ebut found that a lot of the balls were still in syringe after (if u dont wash syring straight away they go black in syringe).
I then went to a compounding pharmacy and got it made up as a suspension and give him 2.5 mls twice a day. I have found using a 1 ml syringe is easier and squiring far back in his throat he does spit some out and does gag at times.
I would not be mixing in food at his age.
Perserve with giving it to him, they dont like it cause itis bitter when i get my next bottle the pharmacist is going to check out what flavours he can add to make it taste better for him (only got a new bottle yesterday so will be a while) maybe thats worth asking.
hey !! I know how hard it is to try and administer the losec. My son darcy was told he had reflux at 2 weeks and has been hardest time of my life. I also tried the liquid form and had to give him like 20ml a day - it just wasn't practical so I was dissolving it in a bit of breast milk and he had it fine thank god! If your worried about the pear, I say that as long as it's a small amount and working at least it is helping the reflux . My peaditrician said that the losec would take 6 weeks to have a full effect but I really think you can notice a difference sooner.
Has your baby got silent reflux or normal reflux?
I would love to talk to other people that have or have had reflux babies because I'm 20 years old and none of my friends understood what a hard time I was having with darcy with the silent reflux and post natal depression that they all gave up on me - so I really do it on my own now! Which is why I have joined the forum.
