Phernergan and or Pain Stop for severe teething?

Has anyone tried either phernergan and or Pain Stop for teething? We are going through DD's worst ever teething episode and she is beyond miserable and I will do anything to help my poor little poppet. Nurofen and Panadol are doing ZIP and the pharmacist gave us Pain Stop Day (which she hated) but I really need something to help her at night.

I've managed to get her into our GP this afternoon to double check there is nothing else wrong (it could possibly be her ears too) and I am going to discuss phernergan and Pain Stop with them, especially as you need a script for both for children under 2. We are going to Singapore on Saturday for 6 days and I really want to make sure I'm armed for the plane and our entire stay for that matter.

So I'm after advice - would you recommend/not recommend either? Tell me the pros and cons of both.

I've found the combination of a dose of nurofen, panadol, sm33 and a teething necklace good for bad teething. One of eden's is coming in sideways at the moment so I'll be doing that combo tonight!

I use pain stop, it's the only thing that stops dd2 from screaming the house down. Yesterday she hid under her dresser and screamed for ages.

Just go to the chemist without her and tell them your dd is 3.

I have used the Painstop nighttime formula. I had a very sick little boy and needed to fly. He was 16 months old. I found the it made him quite drowsy and it certainly help him sleep better than being constantly awake with pain. The taste isn't brilliant so I had to get the dosage into him quick but it did help.

Just go to the chemist without her and tell them your dd is 3.

I think it's far safer to be honest with pharmicists.

Phenergan will not help the pain, it will just make her sleepy. Painstop has also been known to make kids sleepy as well, especially the nighttime formula as it has an antihistamine in it to make them drowsy. I would advise not giving both at the same time because of this. Please go to your pharmacist for advice about this and see what your doctor recommends.

We have our doctors appointment at 4.30 so I'll go along with whatever they suggest. I think the Pain Stop Night might be enough but was thinking Phernergan could help with all the drool. Seriously, she is spewing out drool (not literally spewing but it is flowing like Niagra Falls!) - it's like nothing I've ever seen before! I even had to get changed last night!!

Her teething necklace doesn't seem to be doing much and I tried SM33 last night but she almost vomited from the taste alone! I got a lot of angry looks and lots of very loud 'No, No, No!' after I tried to apply it I realised I have Bonjella in my nappy bag today so I'll give that a go later, maybe it tastes a bit better

A few people had suggested lying about her age to the pharmacist but I would never forgive myself is something went wrong IYKWIM. I'll get all the ins and outs from the GP but it is nice to hear what has worked for other mums so thanks again.

She's just waking (crying again ). At least she had a decent nap, she doesn't sound happy though! Here we go again...

i got painstop night for DD2 for a chronic ear infection at 16 months, i didnt need a script, she slept but not through , she still woke around the same time she normally would have. i know some kids go hypo on phenergan i hope the pain goes soon

She has tonsillitis No wonder she's miserable!

She's now on antibiotics (which are already proving difficult to administer - she's over me putting things in her mouth!) and I can continue with the Nurofen/Panadol combo but he would not give me a script for Pain Stop or Phernergan. He said both can be dangerous to kids under two. I know others parents have used both and are fine but I trust his judgement.

Thank goodness this happened before we left for Singapore! The flight could interesting though. I will be consuming a wine or two I think.

Any tips for getting medicines into a strong-willed toddler, besides wrestling her to the ground and trying to force it down?

She might decide she likes the AB's. They mix them up with sugary stuff.

I tried cheese (her fave) and she wasn't convinced Maybe she'll come round. It tastes ok to me! I wonder if I can put it in her milk?

I put it in milk as a last resort, other times we use a nurofen dispenser and let her hold it to feel in control of taking it.

Just a tip for the sm33 or bonjela. We used to put a bit on a dummy for our children, that way they get it right where they need it. Both of them only ever had/have dummies when teething (their choice), so they can chew on them. I know it is not the recommended way, but it worked for us.

If you put it in her milk you have to make sure she drinks all the milk. So maybe in just a tiny amount of milk that she gets before the rest. Also you need to measure it so if it doesn't work you know that you gave her X ml and she has half left so she had half a dose.

Yup, that's what I did with her Panadol and it's all gone - yay. Unfortunately, she's still grizzling and refusing sleep.

This is full on. I'm so exhausted and over having her attached to me all night and day. DH has just returned from a business trip and is tired too but willing to do his share but she won't have a bar of him!

you know that they use Painstop in ED for kids under 2yrs and phenergan.... i would get an another opinion if i were you. I uses Painstop on my ds and he wasnt even 12 mths old as he has a severe throat infection and he was fine
