Red face Does your baby *fluff* alot?

Sorry for the wonderful choice of words... pass wind i guess is a little more acceptable...

However, I dont know if it is just a coinsidence but last weekend, i reintroduced infants friend(she had it betwen 2-5 weeks), and for the 3 days i used it she screamed all day for 3-4 hours at a time, not settling at all....

So i went back to infacol and (she had it 5-6 weeks) and although it helps her get the burps up i really wanted to stop using it if i could - rather do things naturally... So for the past 3 days i have given her NOTHING for her wind etc.

Over those 3 days when we stopped the infacol she has been an angel... feed, play and out like a light (without so much of a fight)... it has been a dream all day since i stopped the infacol. She burps ok without it and doesnt fuss at all during the day... DO YOU THINK THIS IS A CO-INCIDENCE or she is just getting older?

However - (now to the *fluffing* bit) about 2-7am in the mornings she fusses and fusses and *fluffs* non stop lol - although quite amusing when both DH and I awake from the noise cause it can be so loud, i do know that it bothers her (but not the the extend that she cries) - she usually fusses in her sleep to do it.

Does anyone elses baby have these *fluffing* episodes.. and why only in the mornings like that?? Is there anything to help? - we already rub her tummy clockwise and ride the bycyle together...

    Thanks!

i dont have episodes as such ... but when ds is playing and crawilng he has to stop to let out a ripper which can he heard from another room ....
but your bubs is still young it could be someting your eating in your milk or if you ff it could be the brand?
a massage after her bath could help... but their tummies are so small.. (the size of her fist) its hard to process it all ... kwim

Aiden is quite the little 'fluffer' as well. Mostly when he is feeding.
It is very interesting what you have said about the difference you have found between infants friend, and infacol. I am using infants friend. It does seem to settle him and help with the burps & fluffs, but, i wonder if infacol would work abit better?
I really only started to use the infants friend about 3 days ago, but, only when i desperate.

I read somewhere else, either here, or in one of the information books that i got from the hossi, that 10 -20ml of warm water is also apparently good for wind. I give Aiden that now, mixed with teh infants friend. He has had it 3times over last night and this morning, and he generally goes from screaming to resting (not sleeping) in an instant.

The fluffing is certainly normal. If she is not really waking up with it, it is probably not distressing her too much. I would give it another couple of days to see what happens - it might settle by itself.

If you think she's distressed, certainly small amounts of warm water wouldn't hurt - it stimulates the bowels. Otherwise I guess you could just experiement with changing the timings of feeds, although that might cause more problems. Truly, if it's not distressing her, I would tend to let it go. Their digestive systems are so immature, it can take time for the bowels to get used to different things. Usually I find after a couple days of lots of fluffing a BIG poo results and it settles for a few days. Then it might start all over again. I really think it's pretty normal.

    Thanks Melanie.

Ashley is still doing 2 huge liquid poos a day... i hear people say their bubs only poo once/week or every couple of days... lol not here!

She is a big feeder during the day (every 2-3 hours) and will feed usually once over night (she sleep usually 5 hours at a time overnight). So not much to change there. I let her demand feed.

But might try the warm water.
When is best to give it? at certain times or with each feed??

i use a bottle. and, i did read 3 times a day, but, i only give it, mixed with the I/F after a feed, if i cant settle him. So, he had 3 doses last night, and before that, was maybe thursday when he had some.
I am abit naughty well. desperate times call for desperate measures, he gets warm tap water, and i keep re using the same bottle over night. Will sterilise it today, but, at the time, i am desperate, and do what is quickest.

Aiden generally does 1 huge liquid poo a day. sometimes 2.

Yay for aiden... i am glad i am not the only one with a bub that poo's twice a day! lol

I know what you mean too Debbie about the h20. I might boil some this morning and let it cool in the fridge ready and try it after a feed later in the afternoon....

The Dr told me that baby fusses because she wants to poo and i suppose this would be right as she usually poos early morning (4-6ish am) and mid morning to lunchtime. - but the fussing and fluffing doesnt happen during the day.

Also debbie, when i first got infacol - it worked soooo well (still does ), the first day i used it she had the best sleep ever! Maybe give it a go. It states that it isnt harmful as it isnt absorbed into the blood stream so giving it often wont hurt...

Might give it a go, and see how much of a diference it makes. I dont mind his 4 hour sleep routines, as generally, overnight, i can get him back to sleep within 45min of him waking up, 2 hours is abit of a joke.

With the boiled water - they say to only hang on to it for 24hours. But, still, if you hang onto it for longer, its still gotta be better then tap water.

My DD also used to fluff like a trooper!! She doesn't now that she's older, but when she was about 4-8wks, she used to fluff in her sleep alot. Sometimes loud enough to wake me LOL! She also used to poo 2 or sometimes 3 times a day in the earlier days.
I used to give her gripe water or brauers colic relief which both seemed to work.I was told be careful with giving your bub water if they are bf as sometimes it sometimes makes them take less milk, don't give them too much water. I also used to do exercises with her legs (bicycles) and gently massage her tummy in a clockwise direction throught the day to try to help move the gas
