Hi Ladies,
I am tearing my hair out at present as my little Lucy has all the above.
Lucy is 8 weeks old and exclusively Breastfed. ( 6 weeks premmie ) Her nappies are very wet so supply is not an issue. And when she passes wind OMG you almost fall over backwards from the smell l!!!
She is just sooooooo miserable and screams for a majority of the day. We have her on Losec, zantac and coloxal ( we were on suppositories but Dr said we could stop them ).
What I am VERY uncertain about is the constipation as I was under the belief that babies did not get consitpated whilst Breastfed????? also when she opens her bowels they are not 'consipated poos' but noraml Breastfed poos. ( Who knew poo could be so interesting lol !!!)
I just want to help her setlle as she is becoming more and more unsettled and the technique that worked yesterday does not today etc.... She just appears in soo much pain from the reflux can anyone give me anymore ideas on how to calm her??
first off
have you looked at what you eat? maybe try cutting out things like coffee/chocolate or other things (dairy?) and see if it helps with the wind.
with DJ he had relfux also i used to find that if i fed him laying down it helped alot - also if i slept him on his side - in the recovery position - helped if he did throw up. i think its the left side is better as the opening to the stomach is on the left? will she settle if you have her up right? i used a close carrier for the frist few months and that seemded to help along with the boncer if i need the loo/shower. i also found infants friend would help with the wind also with Dj...Ohh and rubbing his belly in a clockwise direction helped move the wind out as well.
You could try gripe water. That really helped our bubs with tummy ache and wind issues. He's also got reflux and is on losec, which seems to work for him. Feeding him little bits but more often seems to help him if he's having a bad day with reflux. I also sit him up a bit in his pram after feeds, have you tried all that? Agree with Dansta, it could also be something in your diet.
I'd go back to the doctor, something should be able to be done to help your DD with her pain. If your usual GP doesn't help maybe try going to different ones.
I know how hard it is listening to your bubs crying in pain all day. Hang in there, you're doing a great job
Hi there, they do say breast fed babies don't get constipated, I don't know if this is totally true, but my first and second son, both breastfed and went a really long time between poops, talking like 10 days sometimes. It was horrible, it definately was uncomfortable for them, but I have been told that as long as it is soft, it isn't actually constipation.
Both my boys had cows milk intolerence, so maybe try cut out excessive dairy and see if that helps.
Also the bad smell may be the reflux, the losec can take at least 2 weeks to work properly, hopefully the smell decreases then.
