Kylz-Ella has silent reflux and doesnt spew either it was only on the karicare she spewed.
Her signs were waking as soon as she layed down or she would be asleep and the scream and wake up (from reguratating stomach acid) she was always moaning and groaning you could also see her gulping clear liquid( stomach acid) and it was taking her breath away.
Feeding was a nightmare arching her back and neck she would contort into weird positions to feed she would stop start pull off and on the bottle and scream drink scream drink until she finally finished IT WAS VERY DISTRESSING and she just seemed so uncomfortable all the time her voice would be hoarse and raspy from the stomach acid burning her throat and her breath smelt funky.

Now she feeds like a dream is very content and sleeps perfectly when she is asleep.

Its ok hun, babies are hard to work out sometimes. Feeding frequently is also another sign. If he doesnt spew.. then maybe you can see about getting him on Losec to stop the pain but still be able to keep him on normal formula?

Hang in there... all this goes away, eventually

Nope no spewing. Was definatly a freq feeder though was like every 2 hours. At one point he put on nearly a kg in a week. Maybe she was getting worried about his weight gain and just calling it reflux to not worry me. I might just go back to the normal formula with the thickener in it that way I control how much thickener goes in it

Mummamia-I gave up on the AR formula also it just got to thick and ella would not burp so i now just add 3/4 of a scoop of karicare thickner to her normal formula now and it makes it a little thicker then normal formula but still like normal milk and she drinks it well and burps fine.

Kylz-I think that is the better option then we can thicken the formula to what is right for them.

This is the bit I Dont get, I dont have a spewer (has done it once and think that was my fault) yet the GP thinks he has reflux. What other symptoms is there?
He was doing fine on the normal formula i was giving him. Think when this free tin is done I will go back to that or try the normal karicare one
My lil man wasnt a spewer either..............till just the last few days. But he most definitely has reflux, going on the meds have proved that because he is now a totally different baby. He did the back arching, fidgeting, unsettled ALL the time, screaming in pain out of nowhere, like he would be asleep and just scream, as well as other symptoms.

This brings me to my question, my lil man has started vomitting alot now. He wasnt vomitting at all really before, but now im changing his clothes several times a day, hes going through heaps of bibs and we are all wearing his vomit too. I should put him on thickened formula now shouldnt i? Hes about to finish his tin in the next day or so, hes on S26 gold now, what do you think i should put him on? the S26AR? or something else? Its been awhile since ive had to do thickened formula.

krisitie from my experience i would stick with the same formula and just add a thickener to it. Karicare make one.

Kristi-As kylz said leave bub on s26 gold just add a little karicare thickner at a time until you get it to what bub likes Ella only needs 3/4 of a scoop to 180mls where the tin says 2 scoops per 200mls.

DD2 has silent reflux. They dont spew up.. they will regurgitate it up then swallow it back down. So it is actually more damaging than regular reflux as the acids going back down cause double the damage. Signs for DD2 were/are crying when feeding and arching her back, crying when burping, frequent hiccups (and crying throughout them), she would wake after a small sleep due to reflux, you would see her eyes water and the area around her eyes go red, she would and sometimes still gets acid attacks, where whenever acids come up she cries hysterically.. sometimes she will dribble them out others you can hear her swallowing them back down. So even though they dont puke they can still have reflux.

DD2 is on regular Karicare. We recently saw a pediatrician for her silent reflux and she recommended to stay away from the Gold formulas (which she was originally on) as they cause alot of problems with their tummies too. Im also adding just half a scoop of the Karicare thickener to her feed (of 150mls) and that seems to be working well for her.. pediatrician said that was fine to do.. so like everyone has mensioned, you could just try putting in a little with his regular formula and see how he goes.

That's what I was doing and stupidly changed to an AR formula for convenience. He drinks fine. I can hear him gulping when he is drinking so I'm thinking it's more a gas thing but I'm having issues bringing it up. I have prescription wind drops but I dont know if they are working
