My DD is 5mths old and I think she maybe teething. She has the red cheeks, ear tug, drool etc and what looks like a tooth on its way through. By my main problem is the last few days she has only wanted to me held by me and not DH. If DH holds her for me she will scream and tears will flow till I take over again. Could this be related to her teething? It's really draining and I don't know what to do about it! I just can't get a break!
Yup sounds like it! The joys! If you are really worried get her checked out by the GP, maybe the ear thing is an ear infection?
It is tough, and draining and you just have to ride it out. Get DH to help out around the house if he will. Mine were much the same, it's so cruel teething! Use panadol and something like bonjela and/or teething rings if you feel comfortable. HTH!
Thanks Bec! She tends to tug on her ear when she's tired - and it's not very often so I don't think it's an ear infection but I will keep an eye on it!
Sometimes I worry about giving her panadol in case it's not really teething! But I think that's just coz I'm a first time mum!
Oh don't worry, it's so safe! Plus the doasge they tell you on the bottle is less than what drs will presribe when they are REALLY sick. I found once I gave them panadol and was getting some relief I was almost too scared to stop! Hope all goes well!
Oh it definitely does sound like teething hon... it can be very draining for bub, as well as Mum... but I hope its short lived for you both and that the little toothie pops through soon
Its fine to use Panadol in measured doses, but perhaps reserve it for the times she has a fever, or if you know she is in a lot of pain.
Just be a bit cautious though - there is a misconception out there that its completely safe, when its actually not - if given in too high doses, or for too long a period it can cause liver damage.
There are other things you can use, such as Bonjela teething gel, or Brauers Teething relief is really good too (its homeopathic).
Another trick that worked well for us (albeit for short periods) was to wet Aidyn's dummies and freeze them in the freezer for 5 - 10 minutes... this gave him some much needed relief.
You can also get teething rings which you can refrigerate as well.
Just a note Natty, not suggesting you drug up your DD at all, just sharing my experience for you. All I meant was the doses on the bottle are completely safe and if it soothes her then she must have been in pain. Good luck!
Tried bonjela last night and it seemed to help! I have used Brauers products before and they are great - so I might try the teething relief - thanks Ambah!
Bec - Thanks heaps for your advise! I know what you mean with the panadol!
i can totally relate to what you are going through Nat.
My DD has been teething for the last month and a half and she too gets very clingy when in real pain with it. Thats when I know that its her teething and I give her a little panadol. Most other times I just give her bonjela and a cold teething ring. A tepid bath works aswell.
Best advice I was given- I'm a first time mother too- is to use your gut instinct.
