They dont chew them, they sit on the babys skin. They have pain relieving and anti inflamatory properties. If you google amberbebe there is a proper description on thier site. Im hopeless at relaying info. Lol

It does need to be real BALTIC amber. There are lots of fakes out there so be careful. You can buy them in quite a few baby shops, or online. Beware of ebay- Im sure there are lots on there that are genuine but there are also lots of fakes.

Theres a few things to look for. Ours has a plastic clasp so the clasp will break rather than the necklace part. It is also knotted between each bead so if it did happen to break only one bead would fall off. My DS has been wearing his since he was 4 months old. He is now 4 yrs, 3 months. We've never had an issue. When he was little we would take it off for his sleep and wrap it around his ankle then cover with his sock to keep it on just to be sure.

Ours cost $40. But it has lasted really well and came with a lifetime warranty. I suspect they're cheaper now though. Even if they're not, it is well worth the money imo.
