    Teething and temperature

Ok mummies is like to hear your experience with teething and in particular if it involved a temperature. The better health Chanel site says temp can be part if teething but the MCHN line nurse said its a sign of something else. DD cut her first tooth Saturday night and has a temp of 39.2. I've given nurofen again 30 minutes ago and it's still 39 after I leave the the thermometer under her arm for a few minutes. DP is sick in bed again and I feel stuck and a bit stressy!

I'm obviously not a professional, but I feel 39.2 is pretty high, and I'd be thinking about going to a doctor if medicine didn't bring it down. DS's temp definitely went up when he was teething but it was usually around 38 degrees.

39 is a very high temp, I too would say too high to 'just be teeth'. also if the regular panadol and neurofen isnt working then absolutely get it checked out! also if there is another member of the house sick.

Ditto to this, my girls get a low grade temp with a tooth, only about 1 degree higher than normal so I would be suspecting something else might be going on with a temp that was higher again. How is she other than having a temp, generally well or a bit tired or flat or upset or clingy?

I'm going to go against the grain here and say it may only be related to teeth. Both my boys got temps around the 39 mark when teething, it only last 24-36 hours and was brought down with panadol or nurofen.

I had a lot of health professionals tell me that a temperature was not related to teething but based on personal experience, I believe that it is, well, at least it was for my boys anyway, because as soon as the tooth cut the temp went away. No coincidence there

Thanks guys for your responses. I took her to the GP who was a new one at the practice that we use and she clearly had no bedside manner with babies. Said DD didn't have temp(she used a forehead thermometer) but I insisted she felt hot and so the dr took temp with ear thermometer and changed her mind! Gave me script with instructions to give antibiotics If I couldn't keep temp under 38.5.
I complained to reception and saw another GP who noticed inflammation in DDs throat and said antibiotics not necessary and just to keep her hydrated and cool and to come back if not improving in 3 days.
    FX the fever goes soon!
