Why won't she sleep at night now that she has teeth?
My DD has got her first two teeth this week, but I have noticed that her sleep routine is out of whack. She has slept through the night since two months with the occasional bottle needed half way through the night. But the last week she refuses to go to bed at a reasonable hour (usual bed time is approx 7.30pm but last night she didn't go down until after 10pm) or if she does go down early, she is wide awake between 1am and 3am. And because of this unusual routine, if she goes to bed late or has a bottle during the night, she is sleeping until after 9.30am, which means we can't really start the day until late, but then she has a nap, so is having lunch later and.... why?
Right now, she is laying in her cot 'yayyayaya'ing away to herself. It's 9pm and she hasn't had more than 30mins sleep since 2.30pm. She should be flaked out by now.
Oh dear. We had the same problem - an early sleeper-througher (from 9 weeks) until teeth arrived.
DD did still have her good days but she hasn't been consistent since that second tooth arrived. Sorry! Hopefully you're DD is different!
Our DD was a terrible day sleeper until 6ish months though (she slept a lot in the sling) but that improved dramatically once her teeth arrived so it was kind of bittersweet for us. I think growth spurts and more awareness have a lot to do with them being more active at night too but our issues definitely coincided with teeth. She does sleep through a lot but we have a lot more wakeups now than we did at in her early days. My theory is our DD just likes to keep us guessing!
Good luck
PS: keep with your normal rutine and just try to ride it out. You'll be surprised how quickly things can change again. Our DD has gone to bed without any issues tonight (at 7pm) and despite what time she goes to sleep, she often sleeps until 8-8.30. We've stuck with her nightime routine all along though - it's never changed.
Thanks. I agree with you and will be trying to stick to our routine. I don't want one of these kids that rule the roost and tell me when its bed time when they are older.
Check out the book 'Save our Sleep'. It was my bible when my DD was a baby. She is 3/12 now and sleeps 630pm til 6 every night without waking and has since 2 months except when sick etc.
