    Question Zantac not working anymore???

DS2 is 14 weeks old (7 weeks corrected). He has been on Zantac for about 6 weeks, we last increased his dose about 3 weeks ago. This weekend his symptoms have really escalated again (it was the weekend last time too!!!) and I know I'll have to ring the paed on Monday after his weigh in to up his dose again. I feel like his symptoms are currently as bad as they were before he started the Zantac, which wasn't the case last time.

My question is, if this keeps on happening, would it be beneficial to go onto another medication? The paed said that she would start him off on this one because it's easier for a number of reasons, and if he didn't respond she would try something else.

I am planning on taking him to see an osteo or chiro, but in case that doesn't help I would like to have another plan in place. I seriously can't do this on top of everything else, reflux sucks big time!!!

The Zantac dose is very sensitive to changes in weight, so a sudden growth spurt could have a big impact. I would discuss the medication options further with the paed before deciding whether to try the next thing or not, as there will be pros and cons for each medication. But definitely get him to the osteo/chiro asap, I took my DD to the osteo and her reflux improved rapidly after that, it only took 3 - 4 treatments from memory.

Thanks for that MD . I do love and trust our paed, just thought I should get some ideas re. meds before I talk to her on Monday.

It does suck big time doesn't it :hugs: Sorry you've had another flare up xx

With our DD we tried Zantac (and a heap of 'softer' options too) but then ended up needing to use Losec. In the end this did the trick for us, but took a few weeks to take full effect. It seems so common for some meds to work on some babies, and others work better on others. So I would definitely talk about maybe trying something different if you think the Zantac isn't cutting it (firstly making sure he's on the full dose, and he's not chucking it up..etc)
Something like Losec can just be a bit fiddly to give (as it most commonly comes in tablet form that you need to let sit in a little bit of water until it breaks up).

Really hope it settles for you soon. I feel your pain! x
