Thanks for the reply guys, I am sorry to have taken so long to get back!
Heaven - I dont think he is ready for two naps, as he is quite tired before each of them & I when I have to keep him up longer (when out etc), he is sooooo unbelievably grumpy lol.
HotI - I wouldnt have a clue on how to teach an almost 8 month old to get off the bed safely haha. And we dont have a spare mattress, or the room beside our bed to do that. But I did do the monitor yesterday, I cant believe I never thought of that earlier :/ And the bed rails extend out longer, which I had no idea they done.
He had his last arvo nap in our bed, and slept over an hour!
So I think I'll be moving him back into our bed for his day sleeps. And set the porta cot up for nights so DP & I can get some alone time in bed, and then move him back into our bed at one of his early morning wake ups.
To teach him to get off safely, you want him to turn around on his tummy and go feet first. You can try it on the couch as well. If he isn't doing it regularly from the bed, maybe don't encourage him just now to get off- when my DD started moving around more often was we started to teach her how to get off more safely.
