    feeding to sleep...

bub is nearly 5 weeks old. Completely BF... and fed to sleep, then placed in his basinette (during the day) and co-sleeps at night.
Am i doing the wrong thing in feeding to sleep? am i making a rod for my back doing it this way??
we have to bu a new cot as the cot we have is no good, i am wanting as soon as we buy the new cot to get DS in there sleeping at nights/during the day, do you think i will have problems with feeding him to sleep??

kat - feeding to sleep is awesome, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise or make you feel guilty for doing it! I did it with DD#1 till she was weaned at 14mths old and we've had no problems getting her to go to sleep. (She's now 21mths and in a bed)
Keep doing what youre doing - youre doing a great job!

    Hi katones,

I fed DS#1 to sleep until he was just over 12 months old and never had any issues - he started to wean when he stopped - so all seemed to be part of the natural process. He weaned at 14 months - never showed any interest in boobies after that.

DS#2 is also fed to sleep - he is almost 6 months so will be interesting to see when he stops but so far he has been a lot more difficult that DS#1 so I suspect he will take longer to stop. Will see.

    Keep up the good work,
    TICKLISH

Katones - he is only a month old - don't stress about this yet. Around 2 - 3 months just start putting him down dopey instead of fully asleep etc - each baby is different - as I have now found out.....

My other two at this age easily b/f to sleep - I actually complained to someone yesterday that Zander does not do this!!! He gets dopey sure, but as soon as I move him he wakes - but having said that, he does seem to self settle pretty well already in his cot.

    So I just dunno!!

Do whatever you have to do to make you and bub happy, whatever works i say. I fed my now 3yo to sleep and did so till she weaned at 16 months and then did the same for #2 but I only fed her for 5 months before i dried up unfortuantely!

    Go for it!

with the BFing to sleep, its probably not a good idea if you are not prepared to continue with it indefinitely, but if it doesnt worry you, its fine. I do it myself with my DD who is seven months. Not sure if this helps, but in baby love, she says that you can get away with co-sleeping while they are young and before 3 months they will still easily transition into a cot (after that it might be a bit harder, they probably get used to it)
But if longer term feeding to sleep and co-sleeping suits you and your family, then go for it! Whatever feels natural and works is best. Thats one of the great things about parenting, you do what you decide to do!
hope you get lots of sleep with your new little one
