Help with NCSS for 8 month old

I'm looking for some advice and opinions on what I'm trying with DS to help him sleep longer at night. He's 8 months old and the most he's ever gone is 5 or 6 hours, but most of the time it's more like 3 or 4 hours. I can handle it if he's waking for hunger and I'm happy to b/feed him back to sleep, but lately he's gotten used to falling asleep on me and I think he's become reliant on it, meaning that when he wakes (every 1.5 - 2 hrs) he needs me to help him back to sleep. I'm exhausted! And starting to get really frustrated and angry about it which I know isn't healthy.

So - I'm trying a method based on the No Cry Sleep Solution where I get him almost asleep in my arms and then put him in his cot, the idea being he gets used to going to sleep lying down in his cot without me. So far, if he's not practically asleep, he will protest and sit up. I then pick him up and repeat the process - this evening it took half an hour of this and I found it really tough (not helped by being quite tired of course). he did eventually nod off ok but I think he'd pretty much gone to sleep in my arms yet again.

Has anyone done something similar and did it work??? Any suggestions appreciated!

Hiya, I haven't tried the suggestion you mentioned (hopefully someone else here has and can give you some more relevant advice ) but I have sort of tried one of the other NCSS suggestions for a frequently feeding baby. It is the one where she suggests not feeding the baby all the way to sleep, and gently taking them off the nipple when they are almost asleep. TBH I have been a bit inconsistent with it, and probably leave it later than she suggests in the book- my boy is usually "fairy sucking" by that stage- but it does seem to have been helpful. I found when I started doing this he went from feeding 4 or more times a night to sometimes having just 2 feeds, and even though he might wake briefly a couple more times, those times I can just cuddle/pat him back to sleep ok. I have heard it has worked for other people too.

Good luck. I know how tiring it can be feeding every hour or so and I hope you are able to find something that works
