    How long does it take?

Those books that say 3 days are lying!

OK, I put DS to bed. He wakes up one sleep cycle later (30-45 minutes usually) and I pat him back to sleep. I rarely need to pick him up and I never feed him because I want him to just sleep through this one and so I can go out once or twice a month at night! Well, that and sit and enjoy myself of an evening without having to go to his bedroom at 8.30ish. Only or 2-3 minutes, 10 at the absolute outside.

I've done this for about 2-3 weeks, maybe more. When will he get the picture and not wake up? He sleeps another 2-3 hours after this wake-up so why does he wake up now?

Day sleeps rarely happen: today he slept for 40 minutes 11.15-11.55, then 20 minutes around 3.30ish. He tends to sleep 8pm-7.30am with a few wake-ups for feeding (usually around 11 and just pre-dawn, then up for the day at 7.30, maybe more if he's hungry) and has a big dinner before bedtime to fill his tum (potatoes and banana... sleepy foods, according to the so-called experts).

So how do I get him to drop the 8.30 wake-up?

Ryn, Ryn, Ryn, I have no answers for you honey, but take heart in the knowledge that I'm up at all hours of the night with you. Last night I saw every single hour of the night & today I have the brighests of cheeriest little possums. Typical!
I have bought a votive candle that has chamomile & lavendar in it which is supposed to help with the sleeping & relaxing. Yesterday Claudia slept 2 hours at lunch time which was absoloutely amazing but goodness knows what happened last night!!

Hugs to both of you girls.

Ryn, I think the books lie too LOL. I have no idea how long it will take hun, I guess each and every child is different, Liebling will work it out in his own time. I know that's absolutely no comfort or help, sorry! I sympathise because we can't get any set routine going here, so it's very hard to predict what's going to happen. Day sleeps are getting shorter and shorter too Hopefully someone more experienced will come in and help you out.

Jayne honey, I hope you are surviving on so little sleep! Is it just Claudia, or Jessica too? I hope the candle helps things for you

Yep the "books" are probably worked out on averages. And you know what that means.... one baby may get it the first night, another baby may get it by night 7.

Keep going Ryn... perhaps he just needs that little bit more "mummy" reassurance as he transitions from one sleep cycle to another.

Oh Ryn, my DS is EXACTLY the same. Always wakes after first sleep cycle when put to bed for the night. I do the resettle in the dark, without picking up or speaking so that it doesn't matter who does it. I went out and left him with my mum the other night and she went in, replaced dummy, little pat and back to sleep without really noticing who it was. Would he settle for someone else if they did exactly the same as you would? I find that resettle quite quick as they kind of know it's the night and sleep for several hours after it so don't wake fully IYKWIM.
