Lightbulb moment - just trusting my instincts

Our little man is 5 weeks now and for the last few days sleep has been a bit hit and miss. Sometimes he is very easy to settle and others he won't sleep properly between up to 3 feeds. It was driving us a bit nuts as we are trying to read the signs and understand what our little man wants.

Hence today and we sorta hit the wall. We thought we were on a winner as he settled really well after his 11 pm and 2 am feeds. After his 5 am feed he just would not settle. One 40 minute sleep but beyond that just fighting sleep constantly. At about 11 am I lost my head. After trying to settle him for the 3rd time, him almost getting to sleep, putting him down and then he goes berserk. I burst into tears - good and proper. He was clearly over tired from his lack of consistent sleeping over the past few days and I just couldn't work out what to do about it.

So i leave our cranky baby with husband whilst I go food shopping to clear my head (and get food - we had none!).

When I get home he's still cranky and hadn't slept properly. So after his next feed we both get naked and hop into bed. It takes him about 20 minutes of being on my chest and he has dozed off. He had a beautiful 2 and a bit hour sleep. Dad and one of the cats also joined us and I read a book I got for Christmas. Nice chill out time.

Now he is back to being my beautiful baby boy.

Ok, bubs is calling me again so gotta go!

    Cheers,
    Fiona
