Unhappy should my 8month old b sleeping through the night?

Im being told it's not NORMAL that my lil Bella isn't sleeping through the night. She was sleeping from 8pm till 3am then again till about 9am then teething set in and all went out the window. In the forums im in most of the ladies bubs are doing the same as Bella. But Mum keeps saying....." She should b sleeping more."

All babies are different, there is no guarantee when thy will sleep through.... It can be normal for some to sleep through virtually from birth, but normal for others to take their time & sleep through when they get a bit older.

Alexzander only starting sleeping through the night at around 18 months old, then it was only for six months. He started sleeping through the night permenantly (or so far!) from around 30 months, but still has the odd night here or there where he wakes up.

first ill state the obvious- all babies are different!

my neice didnt start to sleep thru the night until she was 11months where as my DS started sleeping thru when he was 4months! (both formula fed)

try not stress at let what your mum is saying worry you, she WILL sleep thru the night again just give it time

OMG - I wish my DS had slept that much! LOL.

It really is normal for bubs to wake. Especially with teething etc.. all they want is a cuddle and some comfort. There's nothing 'wrong' with that. Why is it adults feel the need to have their feelings validated.. yet poor little bubs just have to put up and shut up

You're doing a fantastic job.. and from my point of view you already have a fantastic sleeper!

Just give love, love and more love They sleep eventually.. DS pretty much sleeps through now.. yes he's almost 2.. but what's 2 years in the big scheme of things?

Ummmmm no!!!! & no offence to your Mum but I really wish people would keep their ideas on babies sleeping to themselves!!!!
My MIL once said "oh I don't know what I would do, all mine slept through"....well goooooood for you!! We only ever hear about the babies that do sleep through...mine is not one of them.
Charlie is never consistent, some nights he wakes more than once, but always at least once a night for a feed.
My Mum tells me my brother didn't sleep through til he was 7!!! feel sorry for her.
Just do what ever you are comfortable with & what ever gets you all rest & sleep.

I'm 33 & (even without DS waking me) I wake up at least once a night! I can't see how I could expect a bub to sleep thru when I don't.

oh wow i love that name, if my partner didnt have a rhymning (oh my god i dont know how to spell rhymne??) surname then it would have been on the cards, love it!!
she will sleep thru eventually, i promise... my dd has just started (she is 10 months), up until now she had been hopeless, i promise it will happen.... she does still wake, will cry out but then go back to sleep... i thought we would never get to this point, and appreciate that any day now it could change, so am enjoying it while i can. your time will come!! :-)
i wish these 'well meaning' people would realise that they are just babies, and the poor little tikes don't realise that they are 'meant to be sleeping thru'.... i mean she's a bubba, she's been on this earth a whole two seconds, give her a chance!! (not aiming that at you, but at the people claiming what she 'should be doing')

Kass - don't doubt yourself and don't take it lying down from your ILs (or anyone really). You don't need to be nasty just calm and confident. The next time she says something just say, "well, that's perfectly normal for a baby her age and I'm not worried and I'm not going to panic about it." Just keep repeating that till she gets the message.

I agree with all the others - the only thing that all babies have in common is that they breathe!!

There is no such thing as "should" when it comes to how much babies sleep

Kass, it's VERY normal that Bella isn't sleeping through yet. She's her own little person with her own sleep patterns - don't worry too much about what other people say she 'should' be doing - they don't have experience with her, only with their own children, and all children are different.

My son started sleeping through the night at 12 weeks, then at 6 months stopped (it coincided with teething too). He's now up 2-3 times a night for a cuddle and/or a nappy change. I kinda like it actually - it's nice getting a snuggly cuddle in the middle of the night. I like cuddling DH all through the night and DS just wants a cuddle too!
