Dont have any advice from me personally as i've never had this prob my DD would never let me rock her she always has self settled (mind you i'd like a cuddle every now and then) but a girl i go to playgroup with was talking about a sim prob with her dd yesterday and what she has started to do is rock her but only til she is sleepy then she is putting her down but patting her to sleep. Her plan is to gradually stop rocking and just patting then to move from patting to just been in the room etc until her DD can self settle. She has admitted that it is all too easy at the time when both tired after a long day to "give in" and rock and thats why she has done so til now but her DD is getting too heavy. So far she says she has progressed to been able to put her down still awake (but very sleepy) and patting in a week compared to having to make sure she was out cold a week ago b4 putting her down. HTH
