Sounds about right. Yes, if you want one, ask for basic ultrasound as well. They can either do it before you expect to ovulate to see how follies and lining are developing, or right after, so they can see if you popped an egg (an check lining there too). I had one immediately after. During the u/s they may ask if you want internal as well - if you're cool with it, say yes as it means better images and a comprehensive check (especially as you're paying for that sucker!).

You might also like to ask for a HSG it's where they put dye into your uterus and tubes under X ray to make sure there are no adhesions or blockages etc. Sometimes if there is a mucus plug it will dislodge it.

I rang around FS's before even going to my GP for a referral so i could ask for a referral to a particular person....
Im glad I did cause the FS said not to bother getting the GP to do any tests cause he would like to do them himself.
Because we had a baby naturally before alot of the tests a GP would run he deemed redundant....so I didn't have to do a lot of the tests the others have listed....

You may need to have your boxing gloves on as most GP's think 12 months is an average time to ttc for a woman your age and history. I would tell a little white lie and add a few months

The girls have all made good suggestions - I would definatly include thyroid tests

I have a name of a FS/Gynea who is a woman, who works for one of the Major IVF clinics ans she has an office in Epping, she is beautiful, so lovely my DH wanted to call our baby after her. I will Pm you her details, just as a back up if you need it one day.

I didn't have PHI either. I had my GP refer me to the RWH Reproductives Services and I didn't have to pay anything for my appointments, HSG or blood work up. You may have to wait a bit longer to get an appointment but if money is an issue then the wait might not be so bad. I didn't have to do anything else as I ended up falling PG the cycle of my HSG so not sure if anything else would have cost.

From memory when we had our initial testing before we headed down the IVF path I remember having an US to see if I was ovulating (cant remember what CD it was though) as well as BT at certain points in my cycle. DH also had a couple of SA.... that was pretty much the starting point

I agree with the couple of others who mentioned that an FS may well want to do his own US and HSG. Diagnostically, US is only as good as the sonographer, so a lot of specialists will ask you to go to a specific clinic where they know they gets a certain standard of results. They also do a better job if they know what they're looking for, ie,l if your FS suspects something in particular.

As a minimum, from the GP I'd ask for full bloods for all hormones and at cd21, bloods/swabs for stds (infertility is a complication of several common ones, so they like to rule them out, too) sperm analysis, pap smear and breast exam if you're not up to date.

The more specific tests can come later.

Thanks ladies.

My appointment today was excellent!
I had a pap smear, my first one
I have a referral for CD21 bloods, a pelvic U/S and a referral to a FS from Melbourne IVF.
DH has a referral for his SA.

The GP knew what she was doing and was extremely thorough.
I will see her again if the test results show any abnormalities, otherwise- she recommended I see the FS in January.
If we have 'unexplained' infertility- then it could mean IVF for us.

I feel very positive that we are moving forward

Yay ! Im glad your happy with her attention to detail : I have been a patient at MIVF would u PM me who she refered you too.

I might suggest ringing and booking the appt with MIVF now (as a backup) as certain FS's can take months to get into, that way your ready to go at the very start of the year

I second what Bengal said! I am with MIVF and It takes months to get an appointment with my FS.
