I'm currently only a couple of days into my first 2WW and I'm going insane! Isn't there some magic way of finding out earlier??!!!
Anyway, my problem is this ... I have Christmas party celebrations on Friday and Saturday nights, and then Christmas day itself and possibly New Years Eve before my 2WW is done. How do I get around not drinking at all of these events without everyone suspecting? I'm not a big drinker at all, but I do love a glass of champagne or two Plus, most of our family and friends usually have a drink in their hand, and will completely go out of their way to make sure EVERYONE has a drink their hand!
Can I get some of your views on whether or not 2WW'ers should drink during this period? And if the answer is to abstain, how do I get around this without being obvious, because it will be a HUGE issue.
Off topic rant-- I've been speaking to my sister (confidentially) about TTC, and she has taken it upon herself to tell her husband AND my other sister. I'm furious, as now my little sis wants to know why I haven't told her. Grr!
I figure alot of ppl drink before they find out that they are pregnant!
and as far as i know a glass or 2 isnt going to do any harm!
As they say everything in moderation!
Goodluck with ur 2WW - at least u have alot of distractions to keep ur mind of it!
i hope u get Great news in the New Year!!!
I know exactly how you feel and it is very frustrating!
I had the TWW during christmas with my DD and had a few drinks, only one or two, when the gatherings happened. Just before my period was due I convinced myself that we hadn't been successfull (due to the many HPT I had done - too early of course) and had a few too many drinks. The next morning my hang over seemed to be worse than it should have and I did another HPT and got a BFP! DD is now a very happy and healthy 5yo so it doesn't seem to have done her any harm.
Also I heard that they aren't sharing our blood supply at that stage so it isn't affecting them but i'm not sure... But when I had to go to a family wedding a few weeks ago before we told the family the waiters made up mixtures of lime cordial and soda water which looks exactly like champers, and it kept me hydrated for the night. That could be an alternative...
Good luck with the wait and lots of vibes for you!
You hear of SOOOOOOO many stories where girls have a 'few too many' in the early stages of pregnancy (obviously before they are aware they are pregnant) and the doctors always say the same thing - 'Don't worry, it's a common story amongst pregnant women and it's extremely unlikely any harm has been done'. I too have heard that it can't actually cause any issues until 6 weeks onwards - not that I'm promoting drinking while pregnant!
Given that you don't drink much, I'd say enjoy yourself and have a few drinks. It will take your mind of the TWW and you won't draw attention to yourself. I'll be in my TWW from about Christmas Eve so I know where you're coming from but I've decided just to do the usual and drink responsibly over that time.
Good luck and I hope that damn TWW goes quickly for you!!!
I totally hear you! I am having my trigger for ovulation on fri which means that I will be in the 2ww over xmas too! Mind you as we have been ttc for some time I always seem to be avoiding alcohol and then when I get my BFN I think why was I so good and avoided alcohol and it was for nothing!!! Anyway I wish you luck and hope you get your BFP soon!
My friend found the greatest ever invention - alcohol free champagne... don't know what it was called, but it apparently looked just the same so unless they read the label you are safe
Must remember that myself for tomorrow night and Saturday night and any other night DH has forgotten to mention.
Or the new low joule one - only 5% alcohol which could ease the stress a little.
Hi girls, thanks for all the responses... hate the idea of alcohol free champers (and the relatives-in-law are seasoned champagne drinkers so they'd know in a heartbeat!), but I might try the the half strength one. And you're right - everything in moderation. Just think of all those pregnancies out there that weren't planned, and weren't found out about ... It just sucks, I want to know now!!
I'm on my 2ww too and will certainly be enjoying a drink (one or two) over Christmas. I've really cut back since TTC but it's Christmas and I'm going to enjoy myself! And like the others have said it doesn't actually pass through to your bubs until 6 weeks (I actually thought it was 12) when the placenta attaches it self to you.
I find that no one questions me if I simply walk around with a drink in my hand and take a few sips. I get my dh to have some when no one is looking or wander off to the bathroom and empty some of it down the sink.
I find it easier than having everyone watch me. I hate it when people know you're trying to conceive. It seems like an unasked question that hangs there as the months go by and you're still not utd!
Well i NEVER drank in my 2WW's for 7mths while ttc but in our last cycle before the BFP we went to a wedding and i was in my 2WW but only was going to have 2 or 3 drinks but ended up having quite a few more than that and the next day had the urge to pee on a stick and well, well a BFP!!! I was only 3wks4days pg so very early stages anyway....
I had almost given up ttc and wasnt thinking about it much that last 2 weeks anyway i think that really helped!!!
I think you'll be fine to have a few drinks. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be remember that
Like someone else said, once you are about 6wks pg onwards i think that's quite a crucial stage of development for the feotus.
many many babies have been concieved over a few drinks probably half the population and somehow all managed to survive...... maybe thats counts for all the dumb ones
Not pregnant
Think I miscalculated ovulation by 2 days.
Disappointed. Like everyone, I just thought it would happen miraculously the first time I tried.
Oh well.... bring on January.
