    Hi Nicola,

Firstly, I want to say I am sorry for your loss.

Secondly, I don't have regular periods (ie: 28 days cycles etc...) My period varies from the longest being over 70 days to my most recent being about 34 days.

I would think that you would be ovulating, although you would find it to be harder to calculate when you ovulate because of the length of your cycles. In addition, just because you have a cycle of 28 days, doesn't mean you will ovulate smack bang in the middle of the cycle ie: at 14 days.

Have you thought about charting (taking temp) or even monitoring your cervical mucas to give you a better indication or ovulation dates?

For me, it was too difficult so I am seeing a Naturopath who is helping to shorten my cycles and producing more signs of ovulation to help. - Is this something you can do or even perhaps see your GP to discuss further?

    Hope this Helps

Nicola, sorry to hear about your loss.

It is possible to still ovulate on longer cycles... I'll use my situation as an example.

I used Implanon for 6 years (2 rods, lasting 3 years each) after the second was removed I was diagnosed with PCOS. AF returned 10 weeks after the Implanon was removed and my first cycle was 35 days long. I then started my second cycle.... the days passed and passed I got to cycle day (CD) 35 and kind of expected AF to arrive soon - nothing... I was charting and on CD44 the fertility program I was using informed me it thought I had ovulated on CD37 and was already 7 days post ovulation (DPO). I fell pg that cycle - so it can happen but is not always the case.

I wish you every luck and success in your TTC journey.

Hi Nicola, and welcome to Belly Belly!

RCC has given you some great advice. Like you I have extremely long cycles, and am currently on CD 58, and I ovulated 9 days ago. So it is definitely possible to still be ovulating even though you have a long cycle. The only reason i know for sure that I ovulated is from charting.

Check out the website Fertility Friend, it is a free site that teaches you how to chart your cycle, and detects when you have ovulated. All you need to do to chart is grab a digital thermometer, take your temp at the same time each morning before getting out of bed, and enter your data into FF. Its really that simple!

You might even think about seeing a GP to get some blood work done to check your hormone levels to check for Polycystic Ovaries, and to see if you have ovulated this month yet. There are fetility drugs which can help you to ovulate such as Clomid. Like RCC mentioned, there are also alternatives such as natropaths and Traditional Chinese Medicine Drs who can assist you with shortening cycles. I myself go to a TCM Dr for acupuncture and herbal treatments which i find works for me (this is currenlty my second cycle after going 7 months with no period!).

Hope this helps some, and looking forward to seeing your BFP soon

Thumbs up Thank you so so much!

Hi guys, Thank you so so much for all your comments and information.

I have got an appointment with a specialist where I have had day 3 & day 21 bloods done. apparently from just looking on the net the ranges look quite good. but when I mentioned to gp she just said anythin after a 35day cycle, you will not be ovulating. I was quite taken back from this as I was sure that people still can ovulate on irregular and long periods and she just threw me and as you can imagine upset me immensley thinking I will not be able to concieve.

There was a cancellation at the clinic and today they brought my app forward from 28th may to 28th April

All the comments and suggestions on accupuncture and clomid I am so grateful for as i now know there are solutions out there. Wow I think I lived in the dark ages until I 1st became pregnant, then since the misscarriage it's like some hormone has kicked in where its all I think aboout and want. but im trying to keep a cool the best I can.

Its such a relief to know that its possible to ovulate on longer cycles and I will definately go look on the website you have suggested and take my temperature and record this to pinpoint my ovulation day.

Thank you my spirits are lifted and hopes are as high as ever! fingers crossed for all TTC xxx

A big thanks again to all replies xx
