AF 6 days late but no BFP?

    Hi,
This is my first post so sorry if i'm re-hashing an old topic....
My DH and I are TTC, this is my secong month off the pill, my first AF came at 28 days like clockwork, but this month i'm 6 days late and no BFP?? (Trust me i've tested 3 times!!)
I understand that my body may need to adjust to being off the pill, but i'm very confused. Do I still have a chance of conceiving now or do I need to wait for AF to arrive first? Do most women ovulate about 14 days after AF regardless of the length of their cycle? What could the delay be caused by?
I know I haven't been TTC for long so I shouldn't get too worried, but a late AF is very unusual for me and i don't know how to work with an irregular cycle! Any advice would be great, thanks!

    Hi Kristin,

Still could be early days for a BFP, some tests just don't work that early one for some women - frustrating isn't it, this waiting game.

Yes, I believe the pill can cause cycles to be a little irregular for a while.
Are you observing your cycle in anyway? CM, temps etc???

No, most women do not ovulate about 14 days after AF. The follicular phase (the first phase) of the cycle is the one which varies most from woman to woman (mine is 21+ days ATM). The luteal phase (the phase after O) varies the least (about 11 to 16 days), so you might read that on average AF arrives 14 days after O.

Hard to say whether you can concieve this cycle if you do not know whether you have O'd.

Delay can be caused by lots of things, stress, illness or the BFP!!!

I have an irregular cycle and find that CM is the best guide to O for me.

Let's hope its the BFP causing the delay. Fingers crossed that you get some answers soon.

Thanks for the quick reply! No i'm not doing any charting or monitoring of my cycle, but i will if or when I get AF because I feel like i'm running blind at the moment!

One more question, over the last week whilst expecting AF (which still hasn't arrived), I have been bloated and having some little stabbing pains in what feels like my right overy, any ideas? I don't normally get them, it's not too painful - just unusual. I often get bloated before AF arrives so i'm not concerned about that..... thanks!

Hi, kristen, the pains you are describing could be o pains. When you come off the bcp your body may still need some more time to adjust itself. do you have any cm?

Most women will at least have a faint second line when they are actually pregnant and a week past due AF, so I don't think it's likely that you are pg but there is a slight possibility that you could be.

Lots of women do experience irregular cycles after coming off the pill. The pain you are describing could be O pain. If you start getting other symptoms then I'd suggest testing again, but if you don't get any leave it for another couple of weeks to see if you could be Oing now as your AF would be due about two weeks after Oing.

    Hi Kristin,

Maybe you should have a blood test to confirm?!

Kristin - it is possible that you have not Oed yet and you may still be able to get pregnant this cycle - if you haven't been charting it's difficult to predict. When I came off the pill I didn't O for 100 days! kept having tests etc, but nothing wrong and no O! If it goes on too much longer you should definitely go to your doc and get checked - they will most likely start with a bt and then u/s and go from there. Sometimes your body just gets all screwy for no reason they can explain! In any case, there's lots they can do to "kick start" you if you're not Oing regularly. I know it can be frustrating not knowing what is going on with your body, especially when you are keen to conceive, but the more info you can gather, the more in control you will feel. I have found BellyBelly to be a great place for info and support.

Good luck with the TTC and I hope you get AF (or even better a BFP!) so you know where you stand!

Kristin I support the BT advice, as that sounds exactly like the start of my preg with Darcy. I didn't actually get a BFP until 6weeks pregnant but my HCG level was normal. I was exactly like you, just 2 cycles off the pill.

    Good luck hun.

    Hi Kristin,
I get stabbing crampy pains and am bloated before the BFP. Kinda feels like AF is coming but is stuck (then again could also be AF - very frustrating!!). Some women just don't secrete much HCG in urine so early pregnant tests just don't give accurate results until about 6 weeks.
Any news yet? (hate this waiting game!!!!)

    Hi Ladies,

No AF yet, I haven't done another HPT because I just can't stand the dissapointment! The pains are gone but still feel bloated and hungry (or maybe the hunger is just winter??!!). I'll wait until friday, if no AF i'll go to the doctor for a BT and keep up the...

Thanks so much for your advice, this forum is wonderful - I was completely in the dark until i discovered this site, it's helped me understand so much more XXX
